Canada, eh.
This is the kernel of another current/recent polling thread, IMO. How would you define your involvement with photography?

Is it a casual hobby or does it consume far too much of your thoughts and/or energy? Is it an interest or is it a passion?

For the pros: is photography just a job, or is it much more than that? Is it a means to an end, or is it also a passion?

Also, can one be a really good photographer, or maximize ones potential in photography if it is not a passion?

There's a fine line at times between interest and passion. In some ways photography is both, for me. I think passion is the energy that drives my interest in it and interest keeps igniting the passion. Perhaps this is a bit circular, but it's how it strikes me.

Photography is an avocation for me. I do not classify it by degree, because me urge is to create. The means is just what I have available at the time that interests me. If I don't take photographs, I write. If I don't write, I sing. If I sing, I drink. Or vice-versa. It's all the same thing.

well, I don't do as much photography as I'd like, and I do wish I could spend more time promoting my paid work to get more jobs (ie - I'm "pro" in the sense that I make money on my photography, but it's a side job only). But considering I work full time and am getting my MBA at night with a full load of classes...doing much photography at all is kind of surprising. So I think I'm fairly passionate about it.
