Perhaps one of the greatest photogs ever, IMO. Thanks for the link Mark!

I went to see the Nachtwey exhibition here in Amsterdam. I was seriously impressed with his earlie work but when I came to the section with his shots from Iraq (the series of the surgeons at work in a field(?) hospital) I wasn't so impressed anymore. Umphteen photos from the same angle, with the same scene, printed on what seemed nothing more than ordinary pc printer paper and printed with his old pc printer. Ulitmate crap, IMO. I also find that his (earlier) work is esthetically very strong but lacks much emotion. I was able to see the Robert Capa and the Nachtwey exhibition within an hour after another and the Capa exhibition clearly wins. Capa's photos have more emotion, more humanity, more intensity than anything I saw on the Nachtwey exhibition.

i started disliking nachtwey after his story on soldiers for time magazine. it was for all intents and purposes propaganda for "supporting the troops", i.e. the invasion of iraq. before that, i was just iffy about his attitude on photographing war, especially his assertion that all war photographs are anti-war photographs. this idea is no more applicable to photography than it is to writing, film, painting, or music, and his time story proved it.
