Photokina Countdown 2010

Leica just announced a solid titanium M9 and companion lens at the Design Preview -- no comment.

I'd be impressed if Leica rolled out an M9 made of chocolate. But, titanium? Not so much. That seems about as relevant as the chocolate.

Maybe they sell enough of that kind of thing in Asia and the Gulf to keep the company afloat.

Samsung NX100 could be very interesting as well, much cheaper version of Fuji.
It will be available from 25th September. Price for kit with 20-50mm lens will be equivalent of 605 USD / 385 GBP. I will definitely give it a try. At least before the Fuji is in:)

Well...... don't the boys look pleased. But I'm not sure what there is to be pleased about for the 'real world' Leica users.

I grew up around kids that never worked. Their parents had money. No matter how much time I spent trying to explain aspects of my working life to some of them, they couldn't understand.

It's difficult for me to take a camera designed (and marketed) by someone who never "worked" as a photographer, or didn't have the advice of a working photographer on their design staff, seriously.

I once worked with M4s. I moved to SLRs. After seeing all the "collector" Leicas and what the collectible cameras have done to Leica prices over the years, it's difficult for me to pay for the nonsense. When I bought my M4s in the late 60s, they were $350 ea. I don't think inflation is responsible for the current $4-5K for a M7.

The world is full of dilettantes.

Very seldom a useful and pleasing design is the outcome of taking a fresh look with the help of an already reknown famous designer, who feels the need of "placing his fingerprint" on an already existing working product with such a heritage as a Leica M.

"New ideas" seem forcefully implemented and indeed look like the outcome of a Star Trek TNG series prop designer, laying hand on.

I don't like to use these words here, and I am all for change to the better or the technically advanced, but this camera looks disgusting.

To me, personally, there is nothing more beautiful and purposeful as a Leica MP without any inscription, model designation or engraving bar a serial number.

This for me is the most advanced and purposeful look, a Leica M represents to me.
The window design of the M3 does look already baroque to me. This camera looks linkish, fat, inelegant, imprecise.
It would not shock me, if this presented item is actually out of clay, which it should have let be in in the first place.

The LED lighting is a technically good idea. The final look without this window though seems missing something.

Please, pretty please, do not let this be a hint of a future M design. Let it be a one off for collector geeks and their twisted fantasies and have us produced a proper M.

Fujifilm 1 - Leica 0.

I love my M3 so Fuji's taking the back seat there, but my 3 is a helluvalot nicer than that 9, imho.
