Photonet Leica Forum

Lets take some great pics with our worst rangefinders and post them on PNet Leica forum claiming they were shot with Leicas...That would keep them busy for months arguing about sharpness and bokeh...

I have a Canon 110 rangefinder... would that do? 😀

The leica forum at photo.net is like a gladiator forum, without the wit.

I made the move here because people seem able to disagree with some charm, humor and creativity ... yet still get their points across. At photo.net, it is just a shouting match without a cause.

Cheers to those who keep this place a welcoming place to have a coffee !

The Leica forum isn't quite the snackpit it used to be. A few "snakes" were banned or dropped out. A few others, I think, just grew up.

It's quite placid over there now. On the whole, though, the photography does not have the edge it used to have. Neither does the Leica have the comradery of old, which may not be altogether a bad thing. Comradery can also create cliques which invariably cause mischief. Altogether, it is quite a pleasant place to be these days. Last year was another story. I used to go there hoping to get away from the stress of work and get more stress. I wish I'd known this forum back then.

The Leica forum has been a lot like graduate school. You get beat up a lot but in the end you get your degree if you get hold out. There is no degree from the Leica forum but I have made a great many friends, many of whom I've met personally. I've also pick up a few useful skills.

Thanks to the Leica forum I've learn to post photographs, to use Photoshop and to increase my darkroom skills. I never had a darkroom because of space and time problems. Now I have a darkroom in my computer and have a creative control over my photographs that I never had before. I have the Leica forum largely to thank for this.

Also, I never would have found this delightful forum were it not the Leica forum.

"PN's Leica forum is marked above all for the colours of its contributors. .

Yes, that's what they want to be, all these many rude smartasses and wannabes over there: "To be marked above all "
And that's what they are indeed, but in a quite different sense of the word as they believe.
I have a friend who shot Leica almost exclusively for along time and thus I got known to the LUG archives, which is a community still different from RFF but not bad anyway.

But the PN Leica forum belongs to the worst places I found in the www, maybe this has something to do with the kind of non-moderation which causes a kind of negative selection. The whole PN suffers and degrades from this effect, it attracts more and more of this certain kind of sickos you better keep out of every forum, no matter what it deals with, and people who like decent behaviour leave the forum after a while, really disgusted.
Within an environment , which is marked above all others for the colours of an outstanding lack of education, knowledge, experience, artistic ability and most of all , correct manors, for example the stoneold both bothering ad annoying "Leica-the-best-of-all cameras" - pseudo-discussion must necessarily achieve an unseen level of brutality and idiocy. And if there are no other makes around to beat up they beat up each other, best beginning with a "lens test" of several Leica lenses. So I think the PN Leica forum is the worst forum among all the other PN forums, which mostly suffer too from a poor style of communication. And it has damnaged and still does damnage badly the image of the Leica fans, this forum has got a shame for the Leica community.

Nevertheless some feel at home there, as the quote above proves, for those are colours what we call deficits. A question of standpoint, as long as they stay over there it's all o.k.

Bertram, agreed... 🙁 I only hung around there for a year or so until RFF got so busy. There were indeed Leica snobs, but I can recall only one of them who was truly obnoxious, and he was banned. The worst there, I think, were the anti-Leica snobs who would jump on anyone who said anything nice about Leica. Some of these were good photogs but didn't own or use Leica. I think a few have even shown up here, found us too nice, and left! 🙂

just an fyi...some of the not so nice people that drop by here and want to spread their 'joy' will sometimes get a nice little note from yours truly, explaining how things work here and what will & will not be tolerated.
sort of a private & personal introduction.

So my behaviour must have been acceptable so far ;-)

Good for you, Joe. No public embarassment or anything.

I've pretty much avoided the whole Photo.net experience with an exception now and again. I belong to a couple of Leica boards where things can get heated at times but not really nasty. There are some talented photographers there, just as there are here.

BTW, gray is a very nice color.... with or without pinstripes! 😀

I do not understand why anyone bothers to repeat ANYTHING said on the Photo.net Leica forum. Just look at some of their threads to put it in perspective. Its like asking manufacturers of flamethrowers for lessons in diplomacy.
