I bought this camera, Pentax spotmatic with takumar 50mm f1.8, last year from an antique shop...Here I attached the examples with Agfa APX 100 film processed in ID11. I love this film.
The photos are mostly taken by my wife (under my supervision of course
)
Check them out! I loved the quality of the images! Am I wasting money on expensive leica gear!!??? Well I still love my M6....

Spotmatics are great cameras and the Pentax lenses are top notch. Funny, I picked up a Spotmatic today at a tag sale for $35, I guess that's the going rate

A good many capable cameras which were once expensive are now to be had for next to nothing.

The best camera is one that still works!
I have an old SP500 in the cupboard with a 50mm Takumar ... I've had it for over thirty years and it was the first 'real' camera I ever bought.
It's never had a thing done to it and still functions perfectly aside from the meter which is a couple of stops out. Very solid cameras!

Well, to answer your question, I don't guess you are wasting your money, since SLR and RF and different systems, used in different ways for different reasons. If your Leica fulfills a need then it is good you have it. I personaly see no majic in RF. They are lighter to carry for sure, and that is often a good thing. But I still enjoy my SLR. If you hadn't before, you surely are now. That is good.

Yes yes, I still love my M6 and lenses. They are really compact and even with all of my lenses, I can pack everything in a small bag. If I want to have the same series of lenses on SLR system, I need a biiiig bag and a strong back...
This one I bought for my wife to learn more on photography, and I guess she is doing fine!
Pentax is one of my favorite SLR systems. My father used 6x7 for years (you can see on my neck in one of the photos). They are really well made pieces of equipments!!

When I saw the condition of the camera and the 50mm 1.4SMC takumar, I grabed it. Beatiful cameras.

Your wife is as talented as she is charming. And she doesn't covet your Leica. Count your blessings!

I am a push over for all mechanical cameras. Something very satisfying in using them. I can also use the M42 lenses on my Pentax DSLR.
I think the 1.8 lens is sharper than the 1.4 so for outdoor shots it may be better.

The older Spotmatics are wonderful cameras. I have (count them) three Spotmatic F's. Don't no why, just couldn't resist them at the $40 price range. And if you are worried about weight and size they have got to be one of the smaller, lighter, mechanical SLR's. And what a wonderful smooth shutter and mirror return. A Spotmatic over the shoulder with a short tele on, and a fixed lense rangefinder in hand, is my standard walking around system.

I bought my SP 1000 (with 55mm f 1.8) in 1966 brand new in a box. I will have owned it for 44 years in August this year. Still have it. It still works. Meter is still accurate.
It was my first "real" camera too. I know at least two of my friends, still into photography, who still have their old Spotties. It is a special camera for sure.

I bought a Spotmatic II C/W 50mm f1.4 for something like $20.00 at a "thrift store", last December. They couldn't sell it apparently (after 2 months) so had marked it down from $45.00. It works fine.
I feel like I rescued the thing.

You did rescue the thing. It's always great to get a good deal, but its also a shame that these cameras are selling so ridiculously cheaply.

I also got a black SPII with a 1.4 for $35, but I also got a 2x converter, a Vivitar 135mm 2.8, a flash and a couple filters with it.
