I'm at school, which is, well, not great, but at least i have my scanner now.
I just developed a roll of APX 400 that I shot the first week of term, and I'm pleasantly surprised.

My first basketball game at the U of Oregon.

You get quite the welcome as an opposing team.

Not that everything is so hostile. 😉

Certainly enough to distract security...

I saw the little 'O' on her cheek and waited half the game to make this photo. Not exactly what I had in mind, but close enough to feel satisfied.

The next day I walked downtown with Claire, to go to Buffalo exchange.

And what roll is complete without a mirror shot?

Nice shots! Keep it up -- I wish I had taken lots of pics like this when I went to university, but I wasn't as into photography then. These are nice now, and will be treasures for you later.

You may not realize it, but you are probably going to have the best years of your life at university. Keep on documenting it!

Trius- Me too, it goes really well with Diafine, and packaged as Arista II at freestyle, it's pretty much the cheapest 35mm B/W film out there!

Gene & Frank- I'm hoping it ends up like the months I spent on our sailboat; I may not like it now, but I'll come out a better person.

I just noticed my favorite shot of the bunch wasn't linked correctly! Fixed now.

Well, I had way more fun than that! But that's why I'm not an MD now I guess.

Nice photos, Matt. Each one definitely tells a little story.

Your exposures are uniformly good, but the highlights look a little blocked to me. In the fourth photo, the one with the cheerleaders, the court is almost completely white. It's a cool effect in this photo, but you might not to always lose that detail.

I've not used Arista II in Diafine, so I don't have useful advice. Anyone else? Was this roll pushed? That might explain it.

No, Diafine is a compensating developer, which should theoretically stop blocking in the highlights. However, it also gives some films a speed boost. This being a test roll, I shot it at box speed, next time I may shoot it at ~500.
The floor is washed out because I didn't stop to think about my exposure, I was a little distracted. 😉

EDIT: My scanner may also be at fault in the blocking. It's just a flatbed, so the dynamic range isn't the greatest.

BTW -- I like that fourth shot -- good capture of Mack Court. If you haven't discovered it yet, the Saturday Market downtown (mornings) has some great street shooting potential.

Go Ducks!

WhoooaaaH???? Mac Court is still standing???

Does it shake like it used to in the 70's when the crowd gets raucous. Love that campus. I spent from 1970 to 1986 with the University's Credit Union. Enjoy your time there.

PS... your camera is backward.... might wanna get that looked at.

Ditto the Saturday market. Just watch out for the patchouli smelling hippies. Oh, and Prince Pucklers has the best hot fudge sauce ever!

Go Duckies!

Spring term is a lot nicer than winter quarter down there. My kid is just finishing up his undergrad program at Oregon State.

Oregon State... Oh Joe, how could you let your child to to that school? 😉

I haven't had a chance to get out to the market yet, maybe once it gets warmer, eh?

Kuzano - Shaking aplenty.

Cool shots. Got any plans to shoot pictures at the civil war cemetary next to Mac court? It's pretty interesting there but is a challenge to get good shots. Would like to see some if you have any to share.

I'll certainly try, thanks for the tip.
