Photos from your Nikkormat.

The Nikkormat And 55/1.2 lens were my first cameras, bought because of the impending birth of my daughter.

A couple of years later added a 105/2.5 at the birth of my son.

The camera was well used until 1987 when it was stolen from my car.

I immediately replaced the camera and still have it, though seldom used because of owning too many others.

Back in the day, camera store people always said to keep it forever because it was built like a tank and totally mechanical.

I'm pleased to find this thread, too. The first camera I bought with my own money was a Nikkormat FS--I didn't trust built-in meters. :) I think I only had it for a year or two before I flipped it into a Leica IIIf.

I just started the thread from the beginning! I have some lovely photos of my wife with the same mood as the old ones at the start, here. None are digitalized, unfortunately. One was the one I shot as our engagement picture. Happy:)

Thank you all!

This is one of my favourite threads on RFF! How nice to stumble upon it again. I remember commenting on Eric's pictures a few years ago and its great to see some more.

Timeless shots Eric, thanks so much for sharing them and how are you getting on with publishing them ?! ;-)

Regards

Simon

Love #112! Actually, I love ALL of these, Erik.

The Nikkormat was the camera that helped to start my interest in photography. My friend's older brother had a chrome FT-N and was a photographer with his college newspaper. The look of that camera was so wonderful for some reason. When I went on to high school I signed up for Yearbook staff as soon as I could and became one of the two photographers. I lusted after the Nikkormat but used a Mamiya-Sekor TL1000 that my uncle graciously loaned me. I still have that camera.

Later I was able to fulfill my desire to own a Nikkormat (an FT-N just like my "mentor's") and added a black FT2. This thread gave me a b-a-a-a-a-d case of GAS and I just completed the Trifecta by purchasing a black FT3. It should be here by the end of the week! Now if I could only figure out how to get back to high school….;)

I just found the original "That Nikkormat FTn" thread started by Dave Lackey

Eric, do you have a picture of your Nikkormat?

Hi Simon, Thank you for finding that thread! I remember I have been looking for ages for it, that's why I started this one.

I do not have my original Nikkormats anymore, but I have a truly mint black FTn. I have no pictures of it, but when I find the time for it, I will make them. The black FTn's are gorgeous, they still preserve "something" of the Nikon rangefinders in their styling.

Erik.

My black FTn is in getting the metering cells replaced and the meter tracking fixed. Hopefully I'll be able to run a film through it shortly.
