Two shots of my late mother at Cannon Beach that I just had printed and mounted. These were taken by my dad on his Nikkormat FTn (which was passed down to me around 1990, used for many years, then lost to a thief from my car in Seattle '99 along with most of my Nikkor glass - another story) around 1981 with, I believe, a 50mm Nikkor (can't recall which one) on Kodacolor II 200. Two of my favorite of his.

Indeed! Very inspiring thread and wonderful photos, Erik. I lucked into a beautiful FT3 from a member here, with a Nikkor 50/1.8, and I've purchased the Nikkor 24 to go with it. I need to get out and shoot with it now...

Great, Steve, I always wanted to know if the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 distorts. The f/2 distorts a tiny little bit, but too much for my taste.
In the old days, on a print, this was not much of a problem, but on a flat computer screen it is.
Erik.

Erik, one of my dreams in early 1964 (February) was to buy a Nikkor/Mat/Rex. I can't remember which it was. Obviously, I never did but I do know that it had removable lenses and had a (new then) Copal shutter.
What is the difference and time line? Sorry to break into this thread.

Thanks, Erik. I will load up the Nikkormat and go in search of brick walls or buildings with straight lines...

I think you mean a Nikkorex. I do not know much about it exept that it was built by Mamiya.

$34 bought me a FTN , not pristine but works. Ft owned by me for 5 years now, $60.
Works well
FE2 is also in my collection. Three F2 also reside at my home. Lenses are from AiS and I use them on Digital.
Got to get out and use them more.

From a test roll through a new-to-me Nikomat FTn. Does anybody know what the "mat" in Nikomat means in Japanese? Is it the same "mat" in Yashica-Mat?

Hi, I didn’t knew this thread and I have to say your work is amazing Erik, you are one of my favorite photographers now!
I found this thread looking for Nikkormat EL feedback, to have AE on my non AI lenses (35/2 O and 105/2.5) but apparently is not a popular model here...

Thank you, jssaraiva, I think that the electronic shutters of a lot of EL's have not survived, but most FTn's, FT2's and FT3's are still going strong.

The EL is a great camera, but it took me a while to find one that was accurate. I haven't come across any shutter issues, but I have wound up with plenty that have inaccurate meters. They can still be used fine with a handheld meter, but without the AE, you might as well get an FTn/2/3. The EL2 supposedly has a much better meter (I think this was when they swapped from CDS to selenium cells?) that has weathered time well.
