Photos of deceased family

The end of the story

The end of the story

Thanks, all, for the interesting discussion. My Aunt appears to have settled the dilemna. Her husband, my Uncle, was 'direct cremated'... meaning that there was no viewing/wake. No viewing/wake = no photo opportunity = no dilemna. There will be a memorial service and interrmnet tommorrow.

At the memorial service will be two photos: my Uncle in his US Air Force Uniform (he was active USAF when he met and married my aunt), and a picture of him with his wife and five daughters. Both of these are memories of much better days.

Nobody will likely forget the past 10 years living with my Uncle's alzheimers or the trauma of his last month with pneumonia... but the memorial service will be much more of a celebration of his life with the memories of the selected photos!

Personally I find this a little creepy, last year my brother and I intentionally left our cameras at home with my dad's memorial service even though dad encouraged our hobby. Neither of us were in much of a picture taking mood for a bit. I also find open casket services a little goulish.
I think you have to go with your gut instinct on this one, it varies from region to region and spiritual affiliation. I am of the leave the gear at home camp.
