Photos with the Polaroid 250

After finding a mint 250 in the bay, and a box (big one, 20 packs) of Fuji FP-100C, and some other film, Polaroids are now about 50% of my photography! In the same time, i finally got my self a Leica (a lovely M4), but when i have to chance to choose, I always grab the big and heavy 250... Don't know whats wrong with me.

I've used the 250, 350, and 450: fine cameras.

If you do 50% of your work with Polaroids, you might want to look for a Model 180 or 195. Both offer faster Tessar formula lenses, and have manual control.

Model 180, 114mm F4.5 Tominon lens, wide-open.

Ahm, sorry about that, I didnt realise pics where that big. Opera on my netbook scaled them down, and i didn't check the pixels...


The model 195 really sounds like a great cam, and price seems to confirm that...
Haven't seen a nice one around in the bay for less than 300$.
But I guess it will have to happen sooner or later, i just hope i can find one localy first, where i can check the condition my self. I had some disappointements with recent Polaroid articles form that auction site.

I've handled a 195, but own the 180. They are quite nice cameras. Someday I'll have to try the Speed-Magny back for the Nikon F. Literally fell into one cheap. But it is a clunky kludge compared to a folding Polaroid Land Camera.

Nice pics, Ap64! Both the subjects and the color have a retro feel.

It's easy to hack a battery. Last year while in Istanbul a Turkish friend showed me her dad's Polaroid that had been sitting in a closet since the 70s. I found three 1.5v hearing aid batteries at a photo shop, taped them together in a stack and then taped the leads to the stack. It worked fine.

Lately I've been taking apart 9v batteries to get the 6 1.5v AAAA batteries inside. Cut out three of these and tape or solder the leads to the camera leads and you are ready to go. Watch out for the polarity, it is not obvious.

Lastly, a slightly bigger project is to modify the camera to take AAA batteries. See it here:

modifying them to take AAA batteries isnt hard at all.

just take a regular small LED torch youd get from any Autozone. they come with 3AAA holders inside.

all that's left to do is cut the wires in the battery compartment and solder or electrical tape the right ends onto the corresponding ends of the battery holder.

voila.
