Photoshop CS2?

Well, I would never even think of buying CS2, but then I realized my wife is a student. So, I went to the UConn Coop website and sure enough, they can sell CS2 for $200!!!! WOW! 🙂

I want to upgrade from PSE2 which I currently have, and can hardly justify PSE4 if I can get CS2 for this price. So now my question is should I get the Standard edition or the Premium edition.

I guess the big difference is having Adobe Acrobat Pro which may come in handy if I want to publish something.

Can anyone offer some advise?

the Acrobat Pro is the only difference that I'm aware of.. it's nice to have, but not essential for a home user.. basically, it gives you better control over creating PDFs and allows you to edit them

I don't know if it would be necessary though as CS2 has the current version of PageMaker (now In Design), which I have to check if it will create PDF files.

The price difference is $200, so it is a big price tag.

yes, InDesign creates PDFs.. so you don't really need Acrobat Distiller.. that's a program designed for graphics pros who need to open and edit other people's documents.. if you're just creating your own, you'll be fine without CS2 Pro

Some features of CS2 (not sure if previous versions had them) are indeed very handy. I'm thinking now on the highlights/shadows adjustment option, but sure there are more.

Oscar, there are more than I probably will ever know about.

I have been wanting to do things though that I can't do in Elements, so this is a good chance to step up to the plate with the big boys.

CS2 is really all you need to have in order to do some seriously good design work.. that and a bunch of decent fonts and a scanner.. definitely buy it

I can get a student discount as well, and I pounced on CS when the opportunity came up. It is really an excellent package. I got the whole thing, and I haven't regretted it once. The ultimate page layout/design package.

I need to finish a couple of InDesign projects, but once I'm done, I'm upgrading.

What are we talking about? Photoshop CS2, or the CS2 Suite? As far as I know, Photoshop doesn't come in Standard or Premium flavors.

I know one of the main differences between Photoshop CS and Photoshop CS2 is the ability to use 32-bit files, and publish Flash-enabled "web" albums.

Be advised the license agreement on educational software is for non-commercial use only. Says so right on the splash screen every time you open the program too.

I started off with an .edu copy of PS bought at the Memphis State bookstore. But I was not using it commercially at the time anyway (I was taking some business courses at the time), so it was an opportunity to get it cheap. I don't remember the version, but it was way back around ver.3 i think.

Anyway, I have been buying the upgrades ever since and after the first major upgrade, the splash screen "Non-Commercial Use" warning went away.

Update, the Premium Edition with all the bells and whistles was only $199!!!!

Everyone, go find yourselves a student to buy you CS2. The suggested retail is $1200 and normal price is $800 to $900. I am in shock, and glad that I am getting something from all this tuition I am sending to UConn for my wife.

I am off to install soon.
