Pics of how you transport your Zeiss ZM

I just got my zeiss ikon zm with a f2 35mm biogon. So excited! It's been a while since I've been so excited for a camera.

Just wondering how you guys transport your zm around. it looks so beautiful but easily scratched/scuffed for daily use.

Half case? Or just a bag, or both? Post some pics?

Congrats on your purchase, I have also recently purchased the ZM, though I'm awaiting the 35/2 Biogon before I can start shooting. But when I do, I'll carry it as I do with all my gear, in the bag for transport, on my shoulders everyone other time. Don't worry about how the camera looks, just how it works.

I have no pics handy, but I just throw mine into a normal messenger type bag padded with some foamy stuff. The camera is scrateched like hell (it's been two years), but as I figured I would not resell it ever I couldn't care less...

your hands and a small bag like domke f5xb should be ok. Dont worry for scratches, use it well, take tons of pictures 🙂

I just use a simple camera bag when I'm traveling on my motorcycle and took it out while using a short handstrap when walking with the camera. The not so good part is the rubber covering wore out very quickly in my hand because I always holding it while walking. The paint wore out too because I don't really baby the camera.

I would recommend a halfcase if you are planning to keep it look pristine.

If you care about the looks and if you're going to use it regularly, bogelgelbo's is good advice. I personally don't baby my gear, and it shows on my ZM, which wore quickly.

After just 6 months of "heavy" use (1-2 rolls a day on average), I had to replace the covering -- it had turned to sticky mush because I often carried it "in hand" and not on a neck/shoulder strap. Another year and the body paint was bubbling in at least three places. Another year after that and there are numerous areas and edges where the paint is worn or wearing through. It simply did not age gracefully.

For all the cosmetic imperfections, it still works just fine -- only the frame selector lever is (sometimes) sticky. Other than that it functions like new, despite the wear. (Full disclosure: I do not use my ZM on a regular basis anymore, but that's for completely unrelated reasons. It worked flawlessly the last time I ran a roll through it -- last month.)

pocket full of film plus spare battery. Bags seem to always get in the way for me. Don't like straps either. I have never made a photo with a camera in a bag or a case so I want to be ready when a photo op appears. I am sometimes out 6-7 hours photographing just like this.

I've been carrying the Ikon for just over a week now, and the covering is already wearing away. It's absolutely unbelievable that they would let this camera leave the factory with an objectively defective covering material! FWIW, the Silver Hexar AF uses the same material.

I knew about the problem beforehand, so I placed an order for Griptac from Morgan at Cameraleather.com before I even had the camera.

thanks everyone! I'm quite OCD about my gears so looking for a way to keep it from wearing too much.

That said though, I bought it purely for my photographic pleasure, so it probably won't see as my usage time as the slr. I'll probably end up getting a case for it and keep it in the bag during travel.

camera leather looks like a good idea for the leather wear, I'll look into that as well.

I envy you. 95% of my pictures are taken when I ride my bicycle to/from work. That's why I need a bag. Whenever I find some time to just go out and take pictures, I carry it in my hand as well. I do like wrist straps, though, as I'm a bit clumsy at times... 🙄
