I think the array of reactions in this thread pretty much confirm the success of her project.

Anything that gets people thinking about keeping themselves healthy is, in my opinion, a good thing, so I think you're quite right there.

A nice lesson here is that not anybody fits everywhere.

That's not a lesson but a belief system for some especially extremists. That's why we persecute and make fun of people we perceive as different to ourselves–'you're not from round here are you boy', 'they just don't fit in', 'outsiders bring it on themselves' all mantras for persecution of people.

People fit everywhere and there is room for all people black, white, fat, thin they all deserve our respect and tolerance it clearly is about others attitude.

But this isn't about her illness and the fact she can't keep herself heathy because she has an illness and no choice in that.

It's about how she is perceived and judged by people both in her personal space and in this case on the internet because of how she looks.

I don't care if she's fat, I'm not going to lecture fat people on 'getting healthy' as others appearance is none of my business.

Deride her as much as you like.

I am surprised at the responses to this thread. I'm sorry, but the photos aren't art; they're documentary. And they don't document the person whose narrative we're discussing, they document the abysmal failure of humans to relate to one another. She recognizes that she's not "hot" in the way society has set the standard. What she's documenting tho, is the personality flaws of those who somehow view themselves as superior.

The statement is that not only are they NOT superior, their behavior is unwarranted and unwanted. I'm not sure what that makes them, but they've got nothing to be morally superior about.

Whether this work is art or not (and whether it's any good at all!) could take up a whole thread of its own. I think a lot of what's been called art in the past 50-60 is aligned with her process. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, but for some, a picture is art, for others it's the act of taking it. Plus everybody is an artist these days. I buy my bread from a self proclaimed bread artist!
