Pinholes - repair or replace altogether

This looks pretty bad. Do you folks think I should just have the entire curtain replaced or can I patch this up with some black latex paint?

This is from an S-II / 35 1.8 LTM by the way...

Looks like the fabric is fatigued. Repair is probably not an option.

Probably would be an endless series of patches with the latex paint.

I guess I knew that and was hoping for another answer 🙂. Off to the tech she goes then. My local tech guy says that he uses material from those pull down screens often used for video projectors - I forget what they're technically called. Any thoughts on this or has anyone tried them? They're certainly opaque but I don't know if the weight is up to spec...

The Canon bottom-loaders need a rather thin shutter curtain cloth -- things are tighter in there than a Leica screwmount.

Yes, thin is the idea. I tried to patch a Fed 2 w/ some liquid electrical tape and it became too thick. Hung up on the film rails when winding in.

Hi Marty,

If you can pull the shutter crate out of the body, you'll be in a better position to assess whether "vulcanizing" is still a worthwhile option. Pity, that's a very nice looking camera...

It certainly is. I've been able to do minor work on a IIIf RD ST with all ten of my thumbs but this one had me giving up without even being able to remove the body.
