Do women, powerful, influential, or not, have to be photographed nearly nude?

Only Amy Schumer and Serena Williams are scantily clad! But they all look great. I'm kinda in love with Schumer; she is hilarious and brilliant, and the vacant expression and coffee cup are ace. Ironic nudity!
I got all excited about this the other day; I think it's really cool that they chose this direction for the calendar...many of the women on it are heroes of mine...and the AL portraits are beautifully done. Thumbs up.

Wonder why Pirelli, an Italian (and really international) company decided to show so many American women? Why not someone like Malala Yousafzai? And Fran Lebowitz -- seriously?

I have nothing against people in general and women in particular, but I dislike bad photography.

Wondering if these are the final product or if they will be cropped...if cropped I'd like to see those...
Not sure who these calendars will be marketed to but doubt any car shops or mechanics will be displaying this calendar...

Well, when I think about Pirelli, I think of cars. Generally, fast cars. Then I think about the attitude of people that like fast cars, and I wonder who this calendar is really for.
I'm not sure many on this forum have spent much time in a garage with speed freaks and have an idea what that environment is like. As you can imagine by my avatar I may well have.
Maybe the majority of car people don't use calendars anymore, and it does stand for something else. Or maybe it's the Chinese influence on Pirelli now being owned by the Chinese.

"Calendars" like the traditional Pirelli ones are marked as such so as to have an excuse or cover for displaying pictures and providing advertising of a product, appropriate for the setting in which it is displayed.
For example, I have a calendar at my place of work with pictures of goats in trees (completely hilarious), but because it is attached to a calendar, I can pass it off as something less weird to hang on my wall than JUST a picture of a goat in a tree.
This change to a more PC version of this "calendar" is completely ridiculous. People need to grow some thicker skin and fight battles that actually matter. (By no means am I suggesting that women's rights arent important, but this isnt the way to advocate for them, imo)

Since images of pretty naked women are now universally available to all, it hardly seems reactionary to fill a calendar with pictures of cool people who do interesting things. Pirelli probably got less press every year for their obsolete pinups and just decided to do something different for a change. And it seems to be working.
Frankly, I can imagine I might, say, replace a carburetor with extra skill and flair if Yoko Ono were watching me do it.

I've been in many garages, body shops, print shops and other places like this...calendars aren't put up to check what day it is...they're up there to look at naked or half-naked female bodies...the calendar is just an added bonus...these guys might have a tough time staring at Yoko while sitting on the throne...
If you have the time to do it, check out older Perelli calendars...beautiful naked women...Italian men won't be impressed with next years offerings...

The b&w conversion very good - detailed and punchy midtones.

I like the photos but I also think that there will soon be a warehouse full of unused calendars.

Changing it over to a political correct approach on inspiring women and have a woman shoot it (obviously) is a brilliant move, since there's lots of people online discussing this years edition.
But you can only do this so many times before the concept of inspiring women photographed by a woman gets old.
So I guess the real question is, will Pirelli have the balls to go back to the classy pin-ups in a few years time and again be talk of the town when they do? Because if they don't, it might just as well be the beginning of the end...

Marek, you are being kind.
They are simply awful, distasteful and pathetic.
Pirelli to have accepted this as a finished work, has me in wonderment.
I guess another calendar will get the wall, in many places..
Oh! I forgot some see art.:bang:

I like it and I think the raw look works very good with some of the Images. The only image I am not so sure I like is Yoko Ono, she looks a bit like a down on her luck and very much aged Cabaret dancer. On the other hand some might consider the represenation quiet fitting. Most of the women that modelled for the 2016 calendar are very knowledgeable about image (especially Ono who is a rather succesful Artist) and they were okay with the results, this ought to tell the naysayers something.
Nice work and interesting concept.

not sure if I like the artsy studio backgrounds, kind of do, but they take a lot of space and importance. Expressions I like good half and I like the concept change of Pirelli.

She is 82. My GF took a photo of her a few weeks ago, and she is still out on the streets of NYC, and open to her fans and admirers.
I wasn't critizing her , I just felt that the image unlike the photographs of the other women didn't really flatter her in any way let alone show her as what she is a very strong woman. It's still a good Image but just doesn't really fit in. But that's just my opinion.
Still congrats to Pirelli and Leibovitz for that new Approach. If I could I would buy the calendar or at least a few of the photographs.
