Pirellis.s 2016 Calendar

Interesting calendar for some folks, I know something about some of the women and nothing about some of the others. It would be interesting to see if there is any biographical information in the calendar to connect all the dots.

Since it is going to be a private collection I most likely won't be seeing it while shopping at the mall this holiday season. There is always a calendar stall set up with hundreds of selections.......

Well that was the usual fuss about nothing... OK then, the corporation will not be sending me one.

I hate getting sucked into this kind of thing. Doug, unfortunately, and sadly, is right.

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of inspiring women photographed by a woman gets old.

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of inspiring women photographed by a woman gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of scantily clad women photographed reclining on cars gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of babies in watermelons photographed by that photographer whose name escapes me gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of "hot babes" with their hair slightly mussed up, and made up with "grease" on various body parts photographed in unzipped mechanic coveralls gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of well endowed women photographed by nameless photographers gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of black and white landscapes photographed by Ansel Adams gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of dogs in costume photographed by that other photographer whose name escapes me gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of scenic locations photographed with view cameras gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of damn near anything photographed in HDR gets old

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of _____ photographed _____ gets old

All are equally true, yes?

It's different. I like the photography, the style. Not sure about how tire changers will take this calendar, as has been mentioned, but surely there is some place I could hang something like this in place of the warbirds, or duck or dog or cat calendars.

All the off angles in the Schumer shot give me a vertigo like feeling, it's deeply unpleasant to look at.

That's in no way a comment on Schumer, just the photograph.

The foot pushing out of the bottom of the shot irritates (that happens in a bunch of the shots), but it's the angle that makes me need to look away.

I'm also beyond irritated at the Serena shot having the reference photo in the bottom right corner.

I like the photos but I also think that there will soon be a warehouse full of unused calendars.

We need a picture in black and white of that warehouse interior with piles of calendars:)

I do like the stark backdrops, clamps and all.I did google some of the names i didn't Know.Call it a learning experience.Pirrelli did give Annie control over the subject matter.

Changing it over to a political correct approach on inspiring women and have a woman shoot it (obviously) is a brilliant move, since there's lots of people online discussing this years edition.

But you can only do this so many times before the concept of inspiring women photographed by a woman gets old.

So I guess the real question is, will Pirelli have the balls to go back to the classy pin-ups in a few years time and again be talk of the town when they do? Because if they don't, it might just as well be the beginning of the end...

Really good or really bad ads produces the same results.Everyone remembers the name of the sponsor.

I think all the shots are excellent and I congratulate Leibovitz on her approach .... I like it a lot. The 'bad photography' comment above mystifies me ... I can understand someone not liking it because we all have different tastes but I think that was a little over the top personally.

And I don't think all workshops or tyre changing stations are that locked into the 'girlie' style thing any more ... in Trudeau's words: "It's 2015 folks!"

I like the idea; not so convinced by the execution. I think Serena Williams' portrait is the only one I'd hang on my wall.

I assume the truncated feet in many of the photos are intentional, but it still jars.

The "studied artlessness" approach has been done to death - and far better - by people since Avedon and Penn in the 1960s through Bailey and a host of others, including Liebovitz herself.

Having said that I think it is a modern and inspired change of direction for Pirelli. We surely live in an age now where, not only should women be appreciated and celebrated on many levels - the beauty of their bodies being but one - it is entirely anachronistic not to.

Though I'd have to conclude on the evidence presented here that Liebovitz is not a good enough photographer to convey the depth that these photographs aspire to portray. Or maybe, as Michael suggests above, she's simply lost it.

I love the comment in the intro "The idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward.” What could be more pretentious than the cropping, angles and background in these? Personally I don't think AL has done anything worth looking at since she photographed the Stones in the early '70s.
