at the end of november, off ebay, i bought an olympus om2n.
i paid by money order so figure it takes a week to 10 days to get to the seller because of the christmas rush.
the ad said they would ship by usps. after they received the m.o. i got a notice saying that the camera would be shipped by ups.
i complained, they explained and we settled on usps as they had originally advertised.
then they said it would take longer to ship as they had to get to a post office. i thought it odd as this is a business not an individual seller, but had no complaint - i was not in a rush.
when i got home from work yesterday there was still no package so i emailed them asking if it had been shipped yet, for a tracking number if it had been shipped and commented that parcels from australia moved their way to me with greater speed.
i received a terse reply today stating that yes it had been shipped and they gave me the tracking number.
i checked the usps website and indeed it had been shipped...YESTERDAY!!

i am more than a little pissed off!

But that's ebay? I thought everyone LOVES ebay and there's never a problem?

Tough luck Joe. Lets hope it arrives soon. I was more than a little pissed at the way the whole system works. Positive feedback is a joke as well. You daren't leave feedback first in case you get a negative in return!

Perhaps not enough to make you feel better, but upsp is notorius of poor status info on their web site. Most times I have received the item prior to their site showing it as shipped.

Not as bad as Royal Mail though.

I send an item for a buyer on ebay via recorded delivery. It never arrives. The website states that all items must be claimed (for compensation) within 14 days of sending.

The website won't allow you to click on the option until 3-4 weeks after the item is sent, stating "the item has not arrived and is possibly lost". So you go through the motions.

2 months later RM send a letter saying the item was sent via standard parcels and is no longer trackable ignoring the RECORDED DELIVERY proof of postage, and with a letter dated 2 days before receipt states a reply must be received within 4 days of the letter being sent or else they close the case and neither a refund nor return of the package is possible

OK, everyone meets up with a bad apple on eBay once in a while.

But think of how the world of collecting and selling has changed because of eBay.

I would guess that most people here wouldn't have a fraction of the stuff they have now, at low prices, then if eBay didn't exist.

Ditto for getting rid of your old stuff at real market prices.

That got me too once, my rigid Summicron. Purchased from a reputable seller who I bought from before. Sent my MO he acknowledged receipt and confirmed the lens was sent, then nothing. I corresponded with him, he "initiated" a tracking of the item, then nothing. Finally about 8 or 9 weeks latter it arrived, having only been shipped a week before. He made up the whole story and simply had not shipped it.

Maybe your experience will turn good when the 2n arrives with no pentaprism mirror damage.
I so wish every transaction in life had a rating system like ebay where it really did matter if the ratings were bad.. I notice on things that sellers with a damaged percentage don't get near the bid amounts as 99 and 100 percent guys do.. Not from me anyway.

Hmm how would most airlines be doing?

Sorry to hear that Joe... (touch wood) I have had very few similar experiences buying anywhere & they have always turned out good in the end. My guess is you stumbled on a careless seller (seems there are a lot out there unfortunately), but when the camera arrives all will be forgotten.

Hope it gets there quick!

Peter

Joe, I understand your pissed-offness, but let's hope the 2n is sweet and you'll just forget about the ASS-ininess of the seller. Of course, once you get a 2n, the TTL/OTF flash capabilities will tempt you to ... oh, never mind.

Hey Joe - It never hurts to ask. I sell a ton on eBay (CDs, not photo stuff!), and rarely have issues. I try to be attentive to my winners. It works both ways too: I wish all would pay quickly, but invariably, there's one or two that are slow or never come through on the transaction.

I understand your frustration here. Sounds like you have a reason to be ticked. I think most people would be more understanding if a seller owned up to getting busy, forgetting, whatever. We're all human. But like many other areas of life, when the stories start coming out the crap gets deeper!

Good luck with this transaction!

What does the seller being slow in shipping out a product have to do with eBay? You need to learn how to separate a vehicle from its drivers.

what was most irksome was that his email was very brusk where his earlier emails were very friendly, as if to suggest that my asking again and reminding him and then his finding out that they messed up - was my fault.
this guy is in cutomer service and i doubt that he is directly responsible for the oversight of not mailing the camera. he is probably as pissed off as i, seeing as he is the one forced to deal with me.
and as i said before, i have no problem with ebay, just this business.

Yup, customer service rule #1 - It's not the customer's fault (or just don't let them know it is! 😀 )

IMO, there's no reason for the email tone change. If the writer had a beef with a co-worker, it shouldn't have been clear to you. At least the camera's on its way. Feedback can be left and life goes on I guess...
