Same as the Planar & the Summicron, it's a basic double Gauss design.

This is the most pleasing F2 I've ever seen! This lens is definitely in my wish list.

Planar bokeh is pretty nice. But I like the 110mm f/2 planar the best. It is my gold standard for a lovely lens.

I didn't know that, but to me it's amazing that they are. Reason I say that is it seems that photos taken with each one are so different. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that Planar is so much better (for my taste) with colour film yet Summicron is much better with B&W film - all based on photos I have seen. I don't know how to explain that. Hexanon seems to be closer to Summicron from what I have seen. I don't own Hexanon, so no first hand experience.
Planar, however seems like a superb lens and photos at in the first post (as well as some others by the same person) convinced me to get one. Now I'll be testing my Crons against Planar to see which I like the most. Time will tell.

Krosya -- I think the differences you are seeing are in the coatings and in the final optimization choices that the manufacturers make. While they are similar lens designs and perform similarly in many ways, the different coatings will affect color rendition, contrast and flare contral, while the specific lens optimization will effect things like favoring high resolution in the center versus corner to corner sharpness etc.

The doublings are the the grass infront of the focus point.
I like the way planar split the grass in bokeh.

Planar is most balanced lens I own, in a smooth way, so you can imagine how good bokeh is 😀

I wonder what the ZF 50/1.4 Planar is like.

Lenghtwise, it's surprisingly compact - only 45 mm long. OTOH, it's diameter is not surprisingly very wide - 66 mm.

I had planar 50f/1.4, it is nice no doubt, but overall you feel that planar ZM is different league, even on sharpness at f/2 and I don`t think ZF has same bokeh, anyhow I sold mine because it was big and heavy though very nice lens 😀
