I have a Plaubel Makina W67.
Yesterday, I was talking to Nippon Camera in NY about repairing the film advance mechanism. I was told that there is a gear which is no longer available anywhere, and if the camera needed this part, then they could not repair it. According to them, even Plaubel in Germany has no more of these.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I suppose a gear could be made, but wonder what that would cost.

At any rate, these cameras sell for quite a lot of money. Anyone thinking of getting one, should check into this first.

Cheers,
Gary

I can check back with Plaubel, but as far as I know they could still replace everything on the camera two years ago - repairs are not cheap though, and can run up to more than a used one.

Given the prices charged I'd be surprised if they'll ever run short of gearing parts - it is within the limits of their repair bills to have individual cogs and wheels turned. But the camera may have to retire from full support whenever they run out of the plastics body shell parts or finder optics - plastics casting/moulding or glass polishing has set-up costs that prevent them being made in small numbers.

That would be great if you could confirm with Plaubel. They are still in Frankfurt, I think.

Yes, it doesn't seem like it would be that big of a job to cut a new gear.

Cheers,
Gary
