How about 1 a day?

i see part of our collective reason for being to view and make comment on images posted here...i think we do a very poor job of it.

True Joe ... I don't remember the last time I saw something posted in the critiquing forum!

i am learning to deal with my 'image issues' on my own...other than comments from a steady few on flickr, for which i am grateful, i think i'll have to pay someone to get a critique.

I think 5 images a day would be a realistic number. As it is now I am killing myself trying to take enough photos to make the daily limit of 600!

Not so fast...! I think one per day is an excellent idea - it would force posters to be selective.
That said, I support your suggestion to have some reasonable limits on daily posting. Too often of late I've posted a single photo, only to find it disappear from the first gallery page because someone came along behind me and posted ten or twelve photos at once.

Hi Keith. I posted a set there recently and it was some work that I felt worthy of the effort I had put in. There was little response and it made me wonder why ... :bang:

I'm a relatively new member here. I might post 5-10 from a roll, once or twice a week. I don't think every image is great. The gallery is almost like a confessional for me: like, this is the best i could do this time around. I'm hoping I can see some improvement in my own work over time.
The thing I value about RFF is that it is a community. I'm here to learn, and I value positive comments as well as constructive criticism (although silence and lack of view counts on an image might constitute criticism here).
I'd actually like to be like some here that just post two or three killer images each week, but I'm not there yet.
In any case, I hope I haven't been oversharing. As a side note, I'm often surprised that images I almost tossed, end up getting the most attention here. I'm not sure I trust my own judgement, and RFF gallery can serve as a bit of a test. I should probably self edit more, and trust my own judgement.

Rohan, you made some excellent points and you've posted some killer images. I can't recall whether you posted a lot in one go or not.
I do agree with Keith. And too many from one photographer at one time makes me not look at them so carefully. In choosing my weekly gallery picks I might attend more closely to two adjacent images from one photographer.

The gems were still shining in the 25, don't worry.

As someone who only looks at shots, if a homepage thumbnail catches my eye, I believe that the one a day limit makes sense.
Otherwise you're just drowning in picture noise.

There might also be other ways of using the gallery.
when I decided t upload a series of my pictures, the upload limit was a major pain, and it took me days to do it.
so maybe, we could have a weekly limit (or even a monthly one), and tackle the problem raised by Keith by, for example, having a randomization of the daily uploads?
Only my 2c. I am sure it will bring other issues...

The longer I've been a member here the more I've learned. Over time my photography has improved by participating in the gallery posting photos, getting and giving commentary. i take the time, as often as i can, to go through all the photos posted each week to select photos to enter as my "picks of the week" a valuable effort that has influenced my own editing process. Now I seldom post more then 7 photos a week. I can't begin to imagine posting 20 a day.

The five a day was one of the best things about the gallery. Twenty five per hour is a bit much. Maybe something like two or three images per hour or only show the last two images that a photographer has uploaded if they upload twenty five. I'm glad this was brought up as it has bothered me for some time.

I wouldn't mind a one-a-day maximum, or even less: one per three days. Forces you to critically look at your photos before uploading, which isn't bad at all. Perhaps we should have a poll.
Max uploads to the gallery:
a. 1 per three days
b. 1 a day
c. 3 a day
d. unlimited
My choice: a

The new gallery layout is terrific though it did take a little getting used to .... I like the dropdown menus and the over all look is pretty classy IMO and I thank Jorge for his efforts to move us into a more modern layout.
However, and I'm not singling anyone out here, to open the gallery main page and find that someone has uploaded over twenty images in one hit because they can is not doing the gallery justice. A twenty four hour maximum of five was sensible and a slight increase in that would have been fine but twenty five is over the top. I don't want to look at a page of one person's images when I click on the link.
YMMV of course.
+1. I agree with Keith. People should sometimes try to be a little more selective if we think the gallery to be a place where to upload our finished work, our keepers. But from a different point of view it could be interesting to have a place, maybe a section of the gallery or the critique forum where when someone has doubts about a photo could post two or three (but not twentyfour!) version of the same picture just to know how other people see it. Editing our own photos is not always easy and an exchange of opinion could help.
Just my idea, which of course could be wrong...

We're not flickr and we're not a hosting site ... it's the RFF gallery for members to display their efforts if they choose to do so.
I agree...
5 a day was optimal.

what?
I must agree with limiting uploads, at least a big push to get people to limit
themselves each day.
The gallery here overwhelms me. I have tried to become active in it from time
to time, but the volume of pictures just slays me and I stop viewing.
Must leave it to individuals to do their own editing / filtering.
