I have came across all sort of lenses in a camera store. some lenses like the Summicron asph has Japanese release that spots a screw mount instead the m-mount.

What I want to know is whether will image quality be compromised? If not, why wouldn't anyone be interested in the screw mount then hitting 2 birds with 1 stone...

I have the Summicron 35/2 ASPH LTM, I bought it because it was at a very good price (cheaper than the M version). It is optically the same as the M version except that it focuses down to 1m instead of .7m for the M version, which does not really bother me.

This lens was made for the Japanese market and was a special order made by a Leica reseller in Hong Kong, they actually sold most of them in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They made the Summicron 35/2 ASPH, the Summicron 50/2 and the Summilux 50/1.4 in LTM. The rarest of them all are the Elmarit 90/2.8 LTM (current version) and the Summilux 35/1.4 ASPH LTM! Just a few of these two lenses were made.

A few of the modern Leica lenses are available in the older M39 Leica Screw Mount. Optically, they are the same as their M mount counter part. If you add a LTM to M mount adapter, they are essentially the same lens. No difference in the image quality. These lenses can be used on older cameras such as the Leica IIIg and will work just fine. But their limited production number is probably of a greater appeal than the ability to use them with both LTM and M cameras.

yes, the idea of being able to use a summilux on a zorki is intriguing indeed 😱
