Please help me pull some TRI-X

Rookie mistake. I was shooting some film at ISO 64 then switched to TRI-X and didn't change the speed on my camera. I metered using the camera and didn't really notice until halfway through the roll because it was dark conditions anyway

So basically I need to pull this 2+ stops. I have Rodinal and HC-110 at my disposal. Anybody have any advice? It would be appreciated.

somewhere around the 7-7.5 minute range with rodinal diluted 1+50 ought to do it somewhat decently.

Use Rodinal stand development for 1 hour

1+100 agitate 1min at beginning and 20-30 sec mid time.

Will be grainy and dense, but usable.


Stand dev is your best bet in this situation. However, 2 and 1/2 stop over exposure is a lot.

According to the massive dev chart, D-76 w/ a 1:1 dilution will develop Tri-X 400 rated at ISO 50 in 7 minutes (at 20C).

No problem, you will have a very rich image, but you need to control those highlights.
I would try HC110 in dilution E (1+47) or F (1+79) - preferrably F -
E for about 5 minutes
F for about 8 min

Go easy on the agitation and say a good prayer not to blow those highlights

How about Microdol-X stock, at recommendet developint time it makes ISO 200, now if you shorten this time by 30 percent... you should reach ISO 100, which would only mean an overexposure by 1 stop.

I have a very good push/pull chart which I have offered before. It was calculated by a previous chief film tech at a good boutique lab I used to work in. I don't know how to post it for down-load, but anyone who wants a copy can PM me and I will happily email a document.

BTW- Tri-X pulled to EI 64 should process nicely to give very good negatives. By and large, underexposure is a greater sin than over exposure. Anyway, it should be pretty easy to get decent results from this film.

I developed 6 rolls in 3 diffferent tanks. My one roll at shot ISO 64 and my last two rolls shot normally turned out a little cloudy while my middle 3 rolls turned out perfect. These are the from the 64 roll.

Microdol-X is my go to for pulling- highlights don't seem to block up and grain is very tight.

I'll agree to watch the agitation- keep it gentle.
