... I am trying to use a metaphor of photography to my life experience. I am trying to find something profound to say and a story to say.
Can you express what that metaphor is in a sentence or two? If not, don't use it as the essay subject because you won't have anything to say. But, let's assume you do know how to express that metaphor. Think about it for a good long time. Understand its implications. Where does it lead you? Questions? Assertions? Doubts? Conclusions? Jot that stuff down; nothing fancy, you just don't want those thoughts to disappear. Talk to other people about your ideas. If they challenge them, and you successfully defend them or revise them, so much the better. Eventually, with a bit of luck, you'll have more than enough to say to do the essay. Sketch a simple outline so you know where you're going and so you don't forget what you want to say. Don't start writing until you know how you want the essay to affect the readers.
I don't have any problems with you looking at the work of others for inspiration and guidance. No one is born a writer. Seeing how someone else does it is SOP.
Good luck.

Thank you for all the advice, especially Roger. It was harsh but insightful. I really wasn't trying to insight any hostilities and if you got to know me i am far cry away from pompous. I look forward to trying to be able to contribute to this board if I can and maybe develop my writing skills.
