FP4 Plus developed and scanned by Ilford...

Ilford will scan them in two sizes, large and small from memory and the "small" version is £3 extra for a CD of the entire cassette - which ain't bad , is it?

Their £3 CD had three folders, thumbs, small and these at 2004 x 1405 or so. The larger version costs just under £10 at about 4500 x 3000 pixels for the cassette. But you must order it when sending the film for the D&P.

The camera was a bashed and battered old Olympus 35 ED which is a pure CRF with a programmed shutter.

Dare I ask what Arista Premium is? It's not one I've seen here in the UK. I usually see Agfa, Fuji, Ilford, Kodak and Lucky But Lucky only on the www. And this old git hunts for film here and on mainland Europe.

Arista Premium is Freestyle's rebranded Kodak Plus-X ... available in 35mm only. It's also a fantastic film and sells for $2.20 per roll USD.

I buy my film in bulk rolls, so I'll probably always have one on hand. I tend to keep it for special occasions because of the cost. I'd probably shoot more if it was closer in price to Arista Premium 100 (which I haven't tried). I like to support Ilford because of their commitment to B&W film (and of course, FP4 is great stuff).

What do you think Chris ... regarding the theory that it's very close to the Ilford?

Keith, to be honest I'm not good at picking the difference between films unless it's really obvious, like PAN-F versus HP5. I think by playing with different developers and fine-tuning exposure and development times, combined with careful printing or especially post-processing of an image scanned from the negative, you can get pretty much whatever appearance you want from most films.

This is shot with a Minolta slr camera but the film is FP4 Plus 125.
Pulling 3 times to achieve 25-30 sec exposure, and because the original scan was a little overexposed so i darkened a bit, are the reasons for the nice visible grain.

This was FP4 shot at 125asa developed in Prescysol EF semi stand for 10 1/2 mins.
FP4 has been my 'standard' film for a while now only changing to Tmax100 for its better reciprocity characteristics when needs must.
I used to make Pyrocat HD for my 5x4 negs but I've found Prescysol as good if not better, well worth a try!
