Your well used Black Chrome Digital M must have taken on some patina since its birth in 2006.

How is it looking in 2010? Outdated? Abused? Or simply lovely?

I've never been able to find the definitive answer to this. Is the original M8 Black Paint or Black Chrome?

The M8 is black chrome, which is matte. The M8.2 is black paint (aka black enamel), which is glossy.

Not sure if the M8's top plate is zinc and the M8.2's is brass, though. That'd give a big difference on looks on a well worn body.

I saw a M8.2 on a website somewhere that was showing a bit of brass. Looked pretty cool. Sorry I can't remember where I saw it. My M8 looks great still and I am the not the original owner but it lived in a half case until it was in my possession. Now it runs around naked.

Black paint does wear more quickly. I'd like to see this, too, as I have a black chrome M7 and am curious how it will wear.

... I have an early SN black chrome M7 and it shows some brassing on the top plate and above the strap lugs. Not as nice as the black paint cameras though.

The M8's must be cozy in their Luigi case in a super soft camera bag. No scuffed M8s thus far.

My MP is getting brassy faster than I thought. Must be all that fondling

personally, i think worn black chrome can look pretty cool, especially if we're talking about a black chrome m4 or mp a la carte. the coolest black chrome camera i've ever seen is a canon 7.

That last example looks like it took a beating. What the heck is up with that LCD screen?

I've noticed my M8 is finally starting to show signs of some wear and I really like the look. It's softened up somewhat in it's appearance and the black is almost through on the body in a couple of spots! :)

Sometimes I hate this camera ... currently though I love it!

Perhaps the best relationships have to be this way? :D

Pic please.

I have to go off and take another few hundred shots with it tonight at a gallery opening where the camera is constantly in my hands in a warmish environment. Sometimes I supect that the coating (whatever it is) is fading more than wearing due to the slight acidity in perspiration from my hands!

One spot that is showing a little brass is the on/off switch!

I'll take a couple of pics in the next day or so and post them .. but I supect it will be hard to get it to actually show in a point and shoot digicam shot!

My M8 Panda, which is black paint, though I'm not sure it's the same paint used on the 8.2, has one little tiny bit of brass showing on one of the corners of the finder window. I hope to be using this camera for many years, so who knows what it will look like later. At a NYC RFF gathering over the weekend, I got a chance to hold Carl Merkin/lhsaman's gorgeous and very brassy black M2 with an original and also very brassy Leicavit. Carl, if you're following this thread, you should post some pics of your M2 AND your black M8.2, which is showing some brass on the bottom plate.

Just over 20K clicks, so not to shabby
