I've been using the 7300 for a couple of years and in terms of the file quality it produces, I've been very satisfied versus my older HP Scanjet G4050 flatbed.

One function that I don't find works well (or I can't figure out how to make it work well) is dust removal.

On the 7300, when I turn on the feature using Vuescan or Silverfast, I loose a lot of detail and of course the dust invariable although more difficult to notice is still noticeable.

Is there any improvements in the 7600 over the 7300, in this regard.

I understand that the 7600Ai uses LED and it may be faster, but those 2 advantages are not enough to get me to upgrade.

Has anyone done the upgrade from 7300 to 7600AI?

All dust removal programs destroy the image.

The key is to keep the film clean and inspect/clean before scanning. Loupe, brush, and canned air are the tools. Keep your greasy fingers off the brush. Nothing personal, everyones fingers are greasy.

Keep the scanner covered when not in use, same for film holders. You do not want to introduce dust to inside of scanner.

Filter your water and dry film in a clean space, sleeve immediately. An air filter is your friend. Use it in your scanning room for an hour before working on a clean table.

After all this, use the clone stamp.

Thanks Ronald,

You just saved me a pile of money.
I wasn't sure whether the 7600 would be a huge step up in terms of dust removal.
I've already been using canned air and cloning :bang:.

I guess I'll continue to plug on in the same way.
