I am having an issue while scanning with my 7600i. There is a black vertical line, always in the same spot on the right, running from top to bottom that shows up on certain negatives, but not on others.

On the dusk shot and the clown shot it is very prevalent, while the Jane Kim shot or the trees, it is not there.

It seems it is negative specific as I scanned the clown shot several different times with different settings and it showed up in all of them. Looking at the negatives, there is no evidence of this line. I have also ruled out the camera, as these scans are from two different cameras, and the line shows up from both.

I am running the latest version of VueScan, up-to-date plustek driver, and have installed the Mac plustek usb patch. I have also blown canned air into the scanner in hopes of cleaning out any dust. My next move would be to uninstall VueSan and reinstall.

Computer specs:
MacBook Pro
2.53 Ghz Intel Core 2
Memory 4 GB
OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.5

Do you have any suggestions?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

You could also try a trial install of Silverfast and see if it happens there as well.

The first thing you should do is contact Plustek support on their website. The last time I needed help with my Plustek 7600i (different issue) they were quick to respond and we were able to sort out the problem very quickly. I am very impressed with their support staff.

The other question is this. Does this line show up on the scanning screen while scanning, but not the final scan? Sometimes you can get a display glitch but the scan itself is fine.

(I can't see any of your examples.)

Dittoing Pioneer: no images show up in your post. It may not be necessary to see them for someone to help troubleshoot this though.

I run Silverfast on an older Mac with an 8200SE. No banding problems ever. This makes me think that Vuescan is somehow part of your problem, but that is entirely speculative and I hope someone with tech savvy and experience will help you asap.

Thanks for the scans. It does almost appear like a shutter problem that the scanner is picking up from your negatives. Sometimes these things can be very difficult to see by unassisted vision on the small 35mm negatives without a lightbox and strong magnifier.

Plustek may also agree to take your negatives and scan them to see if they can recreate the problem on similar equipment.

It may also be worth your time to have those same negatives scanned by a different machine if you can find one.

I don't think it is a shutter problem as the scans in the link are from 3 different cameras, and the lines are in the same spot from all three cameras.

The only other thing I could think of is that my tanks leak(never an issue before and I would think I would see this on the negative), and my canon 9000f was not able to pick the leak up. Now with the plustek, it is showing up. Any thoughts on this theory?

Thanks again for you reply.

Do you see the line on your films? It'll be a light colored line on a negative. If its on the film, its not your scanner. I doubt its a light leak in your tank or camera, if it were, the line would be light in the scans.

Its probably a hardware issue then. I doubt its software; I have never seen problems like that with software, its usually a problem with the scanner itself needing serviced.

I dont know this Plustek scanner, but i know that Vuescan has a calibration feature, if the scanner allowes it.
Click on the Scanner button on the very top of the window. If this function is possible on your Plustek, click on calibrate and follow the instructions.
This might solve the problem.

Michael.
