Good day,

Simple question (that I couldn't find on a search of these forums) - Is it worth it to pay the extra for the model of plustek scanner with the infrared dust removal/iSRD over the one without it? The difference is about $250aud.
I shoot a lot of color negative film.

My previous experience with dust removal features on scanners was terrible - I found they just made fine details dull and didn't remove the dust/scratches properly to begin with, but those weren't infrared systems.

I'm looking at the 8100 vs the 8200ai by the way...

Thankyou!

Anyone? the 8200/8100 are the same as the 7600 series by the way, I just want to know if people are actually using the infrared dust reduction on their plusteks for color c41 film, or if it doesn't work well enough to.

I think I have the 7400 model without any infared dust removal features and frankly I wouldnt really want to pay extra for one that has. I use a hand held blower thing before I scan and that does a good enough job. Any visible dust I tend to remove in photoshop if I can be bothered but sometimes I dont even do that, only if I actually want to print a pic will I go to the effort of cleaning up a scan otherwise I feel its just a waste of time.

I don't have a Plustek but the IR just started going wonky on my Canon scanner and I'm just about to lose my mind over it. I'd spend the extra for IR dust removal.

Thanks, I ended up buying the 8100 without the dust reduction as it was under half price of the 8200.

First scans with vuescan are extremely promising - looks like it blows my previous epson v600 away for detail and tones. The silver fast software is a big WTF though, vuescan is still wack but at least I can get consistent results out of it. Very impressed with how quiet this plustek is! It's barely audible compared to the girlfriend-waking racket the minola dual scan IV makes, and the annoying hum of the epson flatbeds.

Don't know about the Plustek, but on the Minolta 5400 it's a technology that is indistinguishable from magic ... it removes the flaws with absolutely no effect on the rest of the image

.. on the minimum setting in Viewscan that is
