What are roll film adapters going for used? They're damned expensive new.

I'm very interested in the Razzle 900 as it combines a Rangfinder w/ some movements common (although limited) to the View camera. It looks like a nice alternative to lugging around one of those expensive, beautiful View cameras around. Just think...Street Photography w/ a 4x5.....very intriguing!!!

From the mid-20s to the mid-60s or even later almost all press photography was created in the streets with 4x5 cameras. Mostly Crown & Speed Graphics. 4x5 on the streets is nothing new.

You could PM are dearly departed friend "Ash" who now holds up at the Large Format Photography Forum. He purchased a Razzle back in October?? I've traded several emails with Dean the Razzles manufacturer, the price is 900.00 and it can take up to 3 months for delivery.

I sent an email to Razzle, probably a year and a half to two years ago. They got back to me about a year later. By that time the GAS had subsided. I've seen a few for sale over the years, most pretty expensive and sometimes going for over $1k. I agree. A portable handheld 4x5 camera is a cool idea.

Back in the day, newspaper photographers went forth with a Speed Graphic, Kodak Ektar 127mm lens and Kodak Tri-X 20 sheet film packs. Oh yeah, and whacking big flashbulbs.

Fast forward to today. The Speed Graphic camera with Kodak Ektar 127mm lens is readily available for $100 and up. Maybe less if you're really lucky. The 20 sheet film packs are gone and flash bulbs are hard to find and expensive. All is not lost. You can still get nice, fast 6 sheet Grafmatic holders and Tri-X sheet film. Polaroid still makes 4x5 film as well.

Go for it. Hit the streets!

Rollfilm backs are not expensive used. Graflex rollfilm backs often go for $125 in really nice condition or less. Linhof Super Rollex backs from the 1970s and 1980s can be had for around $350 or less, and you won't get better film flatness with anything else. Horseman and Wista are somewhere in the middle, except for the Horseman 6x12 back, which usually sells for around $500 used. Linhof Rapid Rollex backs that slip under the groundglass and the 6x12 Techno-Rollex back are more costly.

Sinar Zoom backs can be quite expensive even used (1-2K depending on the version and condition), but they will shoot multiple formats (I think the latest version lets you change formats mid-roll) and slip under the groundglass.

There are also some new Chinese multiformat backs from DaYi, Shen-Hao, Fotoman, and others, that use the red window for frame advance and aren't too expensive. One type is usually 645, 6x6, 6x12, and then there is an expansion back for 6x9, 6x12, and 6x17. I have a DaYi 6x17 back. The expansion back comes with a separate groundglass viewer for focusing, but it is possible to set it up for rangefinder use with lenses of around 120-150mm. I sometimes use it that way on my Linhof 4x5" Tech V.

As a heads up, there is a Crown Graphic in good condition for sale on the LF site.

The Crown is a good street machine. Lighter than the Speed, and can be had cheaper than a Razzle.

Yeah, the Speed Graphics are nice, but the Polaroid camera-size 4x5 film camera was a sweet concept.

I recently bought a converted 110A from a member here, great fun!

Mine has a Ysarex lens and shoots 3.25 X 4.25 polaroid or Fuji packfilm, somewhat bulky but alot of fun with great results. Mine is a Four Designs conversion, no movements just straight up
