I picked up a few odds and ends for my new to me land camera and a Polaroid portrait lens #581/581A was part of the package. Unfortunately, there was no rangefinder accessory. I'm not certain I would use the lens in the first place, but as far as I can tell the lens is useless without the rangefinder accessory, is that true? And if so, is it worth trying to track down the accessory?

Thanks!

I would say the rangefinder attachment is absolutely necessary. Without it I don't see any way to focus correctly. To find one by itself would take phenomenal luck--but you never know. So, good luck!

I have the 581 and hardly ever use it, but the rangefinder is very helpful. I have used another close up lens without the RF attachment, and I have had to use a measuring tape for distance. It was very hard to use as the DOF get very thin when you go close.

You might try setting the RF on closest and measure what the manual says. But it will be hit and miss.

I have an extra kit (583A but it should be perfectly compatible as long as you have a model with the combined VF/RF).

Sending you a PM.
