Police Delete Photos

From the article:

"We typically crisscross cities from the end of railway terminals, we like to go to places not visited by other tourists. You get to know a city by going to places like this, not central squares. Buckingham Palace is also necessary, but you need to go elsewhere to get to know the city," he said.
He said the "nasty incident" had "killed interest in any further trips to the city"

Hey tourists, forget London, it's over rated and over priced.

Visit Leicester, the curry capital of the East Midlands!

We have a couple of galleries and a library too.

Whats funny is that all the stuff that was put in comic books 20 years ago(Alan Moore etc) about the future that sounded very surreal at that time, doesnt sound so surreal anymore... Seems like the future is that everyone will walk around paranoid and in fear and a Fascist partys will rule the countrys.

The stuff in certain comic books and films was and is predictive programming.

So when you do see it and feel it, you will think it is the natural order of things.

Fascism never went away, it is now out in the open, they no longer have to hide it.

It is complete bonkers, though from the English police I'm not too surprised. The thing that makes it maddening is that deleted photos can always be undeleted anyway unless the card has been used since, so not only does it massively overstep their powers, its also completely pointless. Plus, its not as if there's a shortage of real crime in London for them to be occupying themselves with.

What next, assaulting peaceful protesters or innocent bystanders on their way home from work?

I think a group of British photogs should get together at that bus station with 4x5 view cameras and medium format gear, or other obviously pro photo equipment, and stage a 'photest.' Get an art gallery involved, do loads of advanced publicity and media hyping, and then have the gallery donate the proceeds from any prints that are able to be made to a pro civil liberties group.

This kind of behaviour is becoming much more frequent in the UK but lets not forget that the police dont have an automatic right to delete images or seize film. They would need a court order for this.
questions are already being asked in the house of commons about this harassment of photographers. Sadly the officers at question are often community support officers whoose understanding of the law is clearly incorrect.

But don't you feel safer knowing Austrian terrorists have been prevented from taking pictures of your transportation infrastructure?

Seriously, my best wishes go out to you and I hope you are able to make it through this period of stupidity.

As part of Keith's 14 Day Challenge I conducted a small unscientific experiment of my own and took several snaps of the Leicester Crown Court exterior -it does have some interesting shapes and angles in the right light, honest - and CCTV everywhere on the perimeter walls. I must have been noticed.

I was expecting someone to "have a word" as I am a scruffy so-and-so at the best of times and was obviously taking photographs with an unfamiliar piece of equipment (aging Rolleicord), but nothing.

I guess the local Bobbies are more laid-back than their Metropolitan counterparts, or that this sort of thing is so rare that when a photog. is accosted it makes the news.

The videos in the Guardian article are frightening! Goes a long way to show that (in any country) there's at least a minority of officers that should never have been accepted as candidates. I can't image the pressures these guys must be under, but it's totally inappropriate to lash out in this manner.

Even more frightening is the fact that they must be aware that they are being photographed and videoed during these acts... is it any wonder they're trying to stifle photographers? When there's no witnesses, there's no limit to the potential abuse of liberty.

George thinks history will prove him right. Ha.

He opened the way for O`Bama to be elected. Now look at the pickle we are in. Debt up to our eyeballs and scheduled to grow by the year to levels unimagined ever and we are not even in a war where there is some excuse for it.

Anyway poor police do not know delete does not mean gone. There is another trick called dual cards too.

But will the police there force us to delete our photos of your curry, galleries and libraries?

Wear a hoodie, preferably black, the warning film on the Ferry in Seattle advising to report suspicious folks taking photos all show thin, pale, guys, with hoodies, who kneel to shoot photos of the Ferry from low angles. I might have tried it, but have a bad knee.

Evidently kneeling really makes it suspicious. I wonder if they have heard that cell phones have cameras, or if they ever looked at Google Earth?

I recall pulling out the 'blad and taking pictures of the HEX in Paddington Station and not being hassled, but that was two days before the 7/7 attacks. Nowadays, I'd likely be brought down in a flying tackle.

I hadn't heard about the "warning film" on the local ferry, but I'll have to check it out on my next crossing---to photograph one of our most prominent toxic waste sites.

Great Britain appears to be becoming the 'thin end of the wedge' in regard to it's citizen's rights. Very sad ... I've always regarded 'Old Blighty' as a model of freedom and decency in the modern world but this sucks. Of course they did populate this country (Australia) by transporting people who commited such horiffically criminal acts as stealing a loaf of bread. 🙄

The 'convicts' here may have a few rough edges but we seem to be doing a slightly better job of protecting people's rights than the motherland is doing at the moment!

"All that is necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing." --Edmund Burke, well we did nothing and now we are in for the fight of our lives. It is a paradox that Freedom must be won over and over while slavery is a one time deal.

To resist Evil is to take a passive role.
To fight Evil is to be proactive.
To kill Evil, you must be willing to wear Evil's mask.
Removing the mask is tough.
Deal with it!

"An honorable man or woman is one who is truthful; free from deceit; above cheating, lying, stealing, or any form of deception. An honorable man or woman is one who learns early that one cannot do wrong and feel right. A man's character is judged on how he keeps his word and his agreements."
Ezra Taft Benson

It is a good thing that our politicians do not have to be honorable men and women. Who would run our Governments?
