The finish of my Kiev II / IIIs seems somewhat dull and grey .
Maybe it's age related grime in the matt chrome .
Has anyone polished a chrome camera - and how does it come up ?
Thanks

I've cleaned chrome with alcohol on a Q-tip. I've used Silver Polish on the aluminum lenses. I've never tried silver polish on the chrome- might take it off?

I have used Brasso on the chrome - but it needs proper buffing as FrankS suggests .
I am thinking having a 1954 KNeB III polished whilst it is disassembled for CLA in Ukraine .
My ideal would be new Nickel , but I have spent too much on Contax Craze LOL .

Polishing an old Kiev

Polishing an old Kiev

The early Kievs had a very flat matte finish which is much better than the shinier finish on the later and crappier Kievs. Personally, I think the Kiev II finish is better than that of the Contax II of which the Kiev is a copy. So I would not polish it but I would clean it. I have had good success using "Fantastik" cleaner, or if it's really dirty, the cream cleaner used for porcelain stovetops.

Cheers,
Dez

A while back I was advised that Cif Cream Kitchen Cleaner would clean up the chrome on lens barrels and camera bodies. It certainly improved matters, and might be worth a trial.
