i bought an M8 first and then i decided to try the film leicas so i bought an M4P
after using the film M for few days realized why film leicas are so famous.

Now i am seriously thinking of selling my M8 and buy a canon 5D Mark II and exchange my M4P for an M6 TTL .
All my personal stuff i shoot on film and every thing i do for money digital.
Although the M8 is a great camera i feel that it can be a bit of a pain for me in loads of different aspects. I believe with the canon life will much easier and i hope that 22mp will give me better quality in general.(iso performance and autofocus is really important for me)

but that is just my opinion .

Since 1968 its been M2R, M3, M4. I sold or traded the first 2 but kept on using my M4 (35/2 Cron, 50/2 DR cron and 90/2.8 TElm) as my travel outfit. I went with a M8 a year and a half ago with a 21/2.8 ZM and a 90/2.8 ElmM and later replaced my lost 35 cron with a 35/2 V4 cron.

The economy has me in acquisition hold for now but as soon as things turn, I'll add a 28/2.8 Elm V4 and a 50 cron (to replace my 50DR cron). I like 90s vintage Leica glass on my M8. These lenses help smooth out the digital edges.

As for other gear, I've used a Linhof Technika since the early 70s along with Sinar, Toyo, Arca, Deardoff 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10, Mamiya TLRs, Rolli TLR, various blads, Horseman 6x9, and nearly every model Nikon has made since the F. The only cameras to ride with me nearly constantly from the early days have been the Linhof and the M4.

Well, I just sent off my 5 raffle tickets to LHSA. If I win, that will be my progression to an M8. Let you know in late November!

M6, Konica Hexar (great Camera, highly underrated, it is what the M7 should have been), M8 since 01/07. Sold both Film bodies. Miss the M6, also flirting with the idea of buying an MP.

As far as Leica cameras go - M6 'classic' followed by an M6 TTL and then the M8. Though it was a Contax G1 that first got me into rangefinders, oh and an old R2a as a back-up to the 'classic' before the TTL came along.

I tend to use the M8 for colour photography and the M6 TTL for black and white and my everyday carry around, unfortunately the old 'classic' appears to have been left as a back-up as I find the shutter dial of the TTL more intuitive after growing up with SLR's and their similar set-up.

Interesting thread. I sat down and made a list of all the cameras I have used since 1974. I did not include cameras that were part of my collection which sat mostly on the shelf.

For 35mm size RFs: since 1961 Contax II, Contax IIa, M4-2, M5, M5, M6, > M8. Currently have the second M5, M6 & M8. Film no longer used.

My story:
...had many M's
...lusted for an M8
...bought an RD1
...lusted more for an M8
...bought M8
...loved M8
...hated amount of money sunk into M8, afraid of its devaluation curve, didn't use it as much as I thought
...sold M8
...now thinking of getting RD1, just to stay in the digital game.

Maybe I need a lobotomy.
