Well, I thought I had my GAS under control. However, true to form, I can't pass up certain bargains. Along with a couple of Fuji's with six lenses, I came across a Mamiya Press 250 f/5 lens. Now how's a guy going to pass up a good deal on a 250mm Mamiya Press lens?
I am really looking forward to being able to use it. Granted it isn't as small and easy to carry/use as a 250mm f/8 would be, but RF focusing and a little more than a stop should be worth it. That gives me 50mm, 65mm, 100mm, 150mm and 250mm. The 35mm equivalent of 25mm, 28mm, 50mm 75mm and 135mm. Not a bad kit, and all that to be used on 6x7 film!
As far as the Fuji's go, how could you pass up two more Fuji's and a total of 8 lenses? Really! Would any of you have passed that up?

I'd certainly try. What does it do that my other cameras don't? Nothing, or very little. And if I keep buying stuff I can 'afford', merely because it's cheap, it eats up money I could have put towards something I really want and would use. Twenty 'bargains' like that and I've got a new f/0.95 Noctilux! As far as the Fuji's go, how could you pass up two more Fuji's and a total of 8 lenses? Really! Would any of you have passed that up?
I'm not saying you're wrong to have bought it, just that I've been there, and I hope that I wouldn't be taken in (as I see it), any more. This is not an attempt to rain on your parade; just an alternative viewpoint, from the bitter experience of someone who lost track of how many cameras he owned as far back as the late 1970s.
Cheers,
Roger

Oftheheard, I have a weakness for press cameras myself. I once had a Mamiya and it produced great negs. I like its simplicity. Try to find a 6x9 back for it.

Off, it sounds good to me. When I read the title thought you had been cheated out of $350. So all is well.

I only take pictures seriously on holidays. You have probably got a very good Fuji system. But you must be very strong. If you'd ask me to carry that system on a holiday, I'd rather give you $350! But do have fun with it.

Mr. Hicks.
I can't fault anything you say. However, many people on RFF know I have a fondness for Fujica cameras and lenses. I wasn't so interested in the cameras just to have them, but wanted the lenses. BTW, I wasn't clear. Not all the lenses are Fujinons; only five are. Two are 50mm lenses which I don't need. I will either sell or give the others to my daughter. Probably the same for the cameras. I have two of each already. I don't need more.
I am probably more excited about the 250mm for my Super Press 23. That I am really looking forward to using. I have wanted one for a long time and just couldn't see paying the prices they normally went for.
I agree with you on having too many cameras. I think I do, and would only buy something I thought I would use, or really thought I wanted as a collector item. The later is less likely. I have a few of those and don't really want more.
But I will use Fujinon lenses. I really like them. They are fine lenses. I think they are less flare prone than most lenses, as well as being quite sharp. But that is just me. You have much more experience than I, and probably higher standards.

No, I am not so strong. The Fujica line was as noted for its compactness and lightness as the OM system.

Thanks. All is indeed well. Particularly with the 250mm. That excites me most of all. It is a lens I have wanted for a long time. It is pretty well equivalent to a 135mm in 35mm photography. I wouldn't want longer, but do sometimes want to reach out to that range. To do it in 6x7 RF is something I am looking forward to.

You know, its funny. I never really wanted a 6x9 back until I started using my Zeiss Ikon 6x9. Now I think I will follow your suggestion. Do you have one as well?

Unfortunately no. It was sold on, to buy other gear.

As I said, I wasn't trying to rain on your parade or anything. I'm very happy you've got the lenses you want, and certainly, from limited acquaintance with Fuji lenses, I can see why you like 'em.
Perhaps, most of all, I was trying to persuade myself that I'd have resisted it...

Not to worry sir. I have great respect for your opinions and certainly took no offense. I understand hoping not to purchase more. That is my goal as well. I seem to have more than I can easily use now. But some things are just too hard to pass up, because I know I will use them.

i am not that familar with those camera; just barely know what they look like, actually i am not sure but it seems like you are refering to a couple of different camera through this thread? do you have different/simular 6x7 system cameras such as this mamiya press
obviously my experiance and knowledge lies elswhere, but if you like to use that camera and now a have a full range of lenses for it for a good price. it sounds ideal. doesn't mean you have to take all lenses with you all the time but now you have the choice of which brush to use on a canvas.

Chippy,
I only have one working body, my original Super Press 23. I have two others I acquired with lenses I wanted, which was OK, as I wanted at least one parts camera.
I was also referring to some Fujica cameras and lenses I got. I didn't need the camreas, but wanted a couple of the lenses and since it was for a good price, I jumped for that as well.
However, the real excitement for me was the 250mm lens. I am really looking forward to getting that and using it. I have wanted one for a long time. Just could never afford to spend what they were going for. It seems right now that people are a little less inclined to spend money, to include on ebay. They are still buying, just not spending so much. Lucky for me on that one. Now I hope to be able to quit buying for a while.

Three Hail Mamiyas and a Fuji Noster, my son.
(Seriously, the 250 does sound like fun. Was it not Saint Augustine who prayed, "Oh Lord, give me chastity and continence -- but not yet!"?)

Congrats, Fujica man
I'm looking forward to an in-depth report on the comparison between the Mamiya Press and that new Fuji 6x7 folder coming out sometime in the future.
You are going to get that one, yes?

I may burn a roll of 220 showing the 50mm, 100mm, 150mm and 250mm on a local exciting brick wall or some such, as well as some other mundane local attractions.

I really have considered it. However I doubt it. For the cost, considering I have the Mamiya with interchangable lenses, and some nice old folders, it just doesn't make sense for me. But wow, a 6x9 in a Fujinon lens would be fun. Just not enough fun for me to spend what I anticipate it would cost. I don't have many things I would be willing to sell that would get me close enough to the price.
Oh well, maybe in 25 years or so the price will come down and I will get lucky on ebay.
BTW, thanks for the Fujica man moniker, but I will stick with oftheherd for the immediate future. I've gotten used to it and it carries memories.
