Here's a recent article from Popular Mechanics about the preservation of digital art, which is a distinctly different set of processes from preserving physical media like paintings and prints.

Apart from video, the article also talks about photography and digital files, the importance of storage and backups, not to mention being able to maintain an artist's intention despite the breakdown and obsolescence of what can be more fragile media.


I'm reminded of a multimedia exhibition a few years ago, where a major exhibit simply didn't work because something went wrong. There was another, more mechanical exhibit which wasn't working at another exhibition I saw in the following years. They had to bring in the artist to fix them!
