Oregon Portland, OR Rendevous - Saturday, May 3rd, at 12 Noon

I’ll be bringing some Sonnar “rarity du jour” along — perhaps you should bring the M9 + SBS, too, you never know when you might have to take two photos at the exact same time…

There will be more meetings down the line for the M9 + SBS. It is a nice combo. That Kodak CCD with the SBS works well.. Here are some shots in the harbor, some good, some bad, but the lens/camera combo always works even when I don't. M9 + Bertele

C U Saturday!

Well-rested here and ready to be up at 7AM tomorrow to leave at 9AM for the big city and paved sidewalks. I am dragging PIxii along. And charging all the batteries I have for it. It can use batteries quickly so if anyone wants to shoot a lot with it I gothca covered. I have decided to put on the Voigtländer 35mm f/1.7. It is a not much used lens which gets short shrift. I find it has good IQ and color and can add a dreamy look to night shots. It's an underappreciated lens I got from someone who knows lenses well.

I'll post everything from the camera on Saturday in a folder on Flickr and post a link on RFF. Password only. We don't want to hand too much evidence to the feds. LOL

If someone has an autofocus, or, God forbid we do this, a phone camera, we can get a group pic toasting with coffee for Helen back in NYC.

I am looking forward to meeting you folks tomorrow. Cheers.

PS - If I have a glitch along the way I have phone numbers so I will report in that something has happened. Doubtful but just letting you know.

Miles and I showed up and had the meeting. Miles was kind enough to show up with a really glitzy gem of a camera, the old Contax film camera, a II or IIa, I forgot to ask. Also prominent is an espresso set out for Helen. I was wound up on caffeine and Miles paid the price. We will be meeting again on the 2nd of November, first Saturday of the month, again.

Here is the gorgeous camera and Helen's coffee:

I know that Sonnar well! The Mount is from a later 5cm F1.5 that had to be dremeled and filed, and the aperture ring is made from a Jupiter-3 aperture ring- also filed.
I had a small pile of brass and aluminum filings after that one.

Do you work on lenses? LOL Your name was mentioned in relation to this lens. It is a beautiful lens/camera combo. I am just grateful I did not steal it while Miles was away. It was just gorgeous. I always have a soft spot in my heart for that camera.

OK, just a reminder that this unruly mob is scheduled to gather again at Crema, PDX, for blather, show and tell, and just a general get-together. I'll see if I can tone down my caffeine to about 25% of last week and I hope that Miles and I can see the other two folks and possibly more. Stragllers welcome.

Okay everyone,

Our next social gathering is scheduled for Saturday, November 2nd, at 12 Noon.

Location: Cream Coffee + Bakery at 2728 SE Ankeny St in Portland, OR

Who's hoping to come? What should we talk about? Which RFF moderator is going to bail us out of jail?

It would be good if we all drag something along for "show and tell". I will be there for sure. I will get that bailbondsman of yore, the one who always advertised with the Zig-Zag Zouave on his ad in the Yellow Pages for the folks too stoned to read. This ad:

Go easy on the coffee there. It is avgas. ;o)

OK, Halloween and All Saints and All Souls stand between now and the next round up. I'll drag up an old Leica and will probably have my recently rediscovered pocket camera, the Lumix DMC ZS3, a good little P&S. What's nice is that it came with a hard leather pouch that can be worn on a belt. Another small camera which punches above its weight, with a Leica zoom lens. Here's a shot of a RoRo, the Grand Vision, on its way upriver with a load of cars for PDX.

You lot have room for another sonnar fan? After taking a workshop with Adolfo Rozenfeld a couple of years ago I went down the sonnar rabbit hole!

Your seat is reserved.

Sonnars are nice. Brian has my "dreamy" lens, the Cooke Amotal which has the "Cooke Look". A dreamy softness and glow without loss of detail. This is one of my luckier shots. M9 + Cooke Amotal 2" f/2.0, underexposed by 1 deliberately. If you go to the Flickr page and double click it to its max size you will see that the flower pistils are sharp and the subtle pink shadings are evident. I believe the lens is a 1-2-2-1 Planar. It has a little magic.

Looks like after Halloween, All Saints, All Souls and the two Dios des los Muertos we will be ready for coffee and conversation in PDX at the Crema Bakery on Arkeny. The coffee was great last month, I will expand my repast to coffee and something sinful in the pastry department. Hope to see you guys up there. You guys can start with both coffee and pastry.

Helen, how do you like your coffee?? You got an espresso last time. Macchiato?

Getting amped for Saturday. I am a late riser but for Saturday I'll go to bed early and be up, again, at 7:00, and on the road by 9:00. I'll find some hardware to bring along for "show and tell". I am looking forward to seeing you guys, Miles again, the rest for a first time.

On the way home I can stop at Always Spring in Beaverton for great killer Korean food or Helvetia Inn in Hillsboro for a superb smashburger with really good fried onion rings.
