Portraits Our Kids Take of Us

I am hopeful that this thread will eventually gather moss. I never expected my son to take to the camera. My daughter (she's a 2002) early on showed interest and I gifted her a 7 or 8MP Nikon Coolpix. She has some interest still and knows her way around her Fuji X100T.

My son Jacob has really taken to photography and when he visits if a Leica is sitting as my Monochrom (M9M) was this evening he corners me as his subject- hence the accompanying photo below.

I am thrilled that he has the bug and I imagine that others here who take wonderful pics of their kids will delight as I do thinking we might pass our gear on eventually to someone who will know how to use and appreciate it. On that morbid note, let the images flow!

Thank you Murray. It's fun to see what our kids do as they become adults regardless of whether they share our interests but especially where there is passion. I hope and look forward to see other's portraits show up here over time.

When my son got married and they visited us for the first time I showed my new daughter-in-law some of my camera stuff. She showed interest being she's an engineer and since it was the way to connect with me, I think. My son listened attentively and I'm pretty sure he appreciates the 'goodness' of my mechanical collection as he's a mechanical engineer.
Now days they're both too busy with our granddaughter and the twins for much photography except the ever present iphone.
My daughter might show some interest, but she's in Japan and will have four kids of her own before she comes back stateside, so, again, the iphone is the camera.

Hah, and with Canon DSLR no less! Pan, knowing your work from Images on Film side, I'd not have guessed you to shoot with anything so modern! I'd say this picture not only counts but is a great start -he's the adorable one in the picture BTW!

Between 2006 and 2011 my wife used to run a blog/website with cooking/baking recipes. We got this EOS 10D to take pictures of food and put it on the website. I still have the camera and use it to take pictures of my cameras for RFF.
The baby in that picture looks like this now.

When Popular Photography did an article about my work in their November, 2003 issue, they needed a photo of me. Their photo editor at the time, Monica Cipnik, saw a photo my son had taken of me on my website and asked to use it. She thought it would be neat to have a photo done by my son, who was only 4 years old, illustrate the article. Mack had used a Fuji Quicksnap single-use camera for the photo.







Mack eventually got more into computer graphics than photography, and he's making a good living as a commercial illustrator now; but this was his first publication!
