i'll be in London in October and having a bit of fun trying to decide what film to use. I use Ektar 100 around home, and took some to London last October, along with some Fuji Superior X-tra 400.

Searching here and elsewhere, I've seen two thoughts on PortraNC 400 and PortraVC 400. One thought is that NC's talents are more appropriate for the subdued and soft light of autumn. The other is that VC will add some welcome vibrance and pizzazz on the gray days.

Is either supposition correct?

I understand the axiom to stay with what I know best, which would be Ektar. But, relying on a 100 ISO film in London in October seems a bit of a risk, based on my experiences.

Both suppositions are correct. It depends on what you want in the end. If it were me I'd go with NC, but I like the more pastel/muted pallette of NC. It goes with the more pastel/muted pallette of London. I never had a problem with 100 ASA in London (except at night). Bring a monopod.

I love the color palette of Porta 400NC. If you want more punch, just bring along the Ektar 100 as well. I used that combination on a trip to Japan and was very pleased with the results.

Not sure which film Bill, but if you should happen to venture north - lke the York area, I'd be happy to show you around, enjoy your trip!
Dave.
