Portugal!

I will be in Portugal for 2 weeks in mid-March (next month). I'm curious if there are any RFFers in Lisbon and/or Porto who would love to meet up and go shooting, or if anyone has any suggestions for things to do/see/photograph while there.

I've never been to Portugal, but have traveled extensively all over the globe. Still, I have the same problem of deciding on gear before I leave...

In Lisbon I usually carry a Zorkii with a collapsible Industar-22. It fits in my pocket so that I don't have to look like a tourist.

Lisbon is my favorite European city. Get a one day tram pass (Sete Collinas card) and ride the old street cars, especially the #28 line from Estrella to Graca. This will give you a feeling for what the old part of the city is like. You will find plenty of things to take pictures of.

Most beautiful beach Ive ever been to personally is Praia da Ursa. You have to hike there, but it's worth it. It's about an hour north of Lisbon.

Nearby Praia da Adraga is also nice, is accesible by car and has a great little seafood restaurant right there. Get the clams with garlic, white wine, and cilantro sauce (Ameijoas a Bulhau Pato).

In Lisbon itself, I love the Alfama district. It's the old moorish district. Its on the backside of a hill and is steep with narrow streets and alleys. Also lots of great little restaurants.

Read up on the early Portuguese sea explorers. Examine the architectural details of churches and monuments to that history.

Check out the narrow winding streets of the old city. Figure out how to photograph the ethereal echo of a woman singing a Fado?
