Possibly stupid question?

You can see the original Japanese text at the following link

http://www.nikon-image.com/support/repair/discontinue/

See the following point: 9. 外観モルトプレーン確認・交換

The literal (Google) translation is: "9. Appearance Check and replace malt plane"

however "モルトプレーン" refers to the light seal material (foam)

Edit: "Moltopren [モルトプレーン] is made by INOAC (http://www.inoac.co.jp/ : the most famous Japanese foam manufacturer) which is almost the same material with your camera's original light seals foam. Most of all Japanese camera manufacturer use Inoac's foams. High Quality." - source Aki-Asahi

it’s a fairly common translation, I think it means foam light seals but have no idea if that’s correct.
