Post Pics From Your OM

Mmmmm ƒ1.2

Here are some photos with the OM2 I got from ChrisN. I made a thread with more photos in it because I didn't want to flood this page with 20 pics. Here's a select few of some favorites from a roll of Tri-X and Adox 25.

Actually Chris I think the 1.4 is optically the better lens but I get sucked in by the 1.2's speed and short depth of field! 😀

If you look at pic number two you'll notice that there's some veiling flare around the white coffee cup in the lower left of the frame ... the 1.4 wouldn't do that! 😛

Yeah, Keith, you're right that the 1.4 is the sharper lens and more flare resistant. The guys on the OM email list who have both have talked about it a lot, but I still want to play with a 1.2!

I have tried two different f1.4 Zuikos. The ones with serial number higher than 1,100,000 are said to be the last version, and the best. I have two of them and I used to have one with a serial in the 600,000 range. It was ok, but not as sharp wide open as the later one. You should try to get one, they aren't terribly expensive and wide open it is SHARP.

I have one actually ... ser no. 379215 which I gather would be a fairly early example. It was cheap off eBay when I got it ... I've been pretty impressed with it, definitely sharper wide open than my 1.2.

The late ones must be really good!

That is fairly early, does yours have the silver ring around the front, or is it all black? Here's a wide open shot with mine:

Depth of field looks pretty deep for 1.4, because of the angle I was looking down at him, much of him was in the plane of focus.

Silver ring around the front ... it was fairly cheap from memory! I think I paid about $50.00 for it.

Those are the oldest. The original OM lenses were the 'silver-nose' versions like you have. All were single coated, except a few models like the 35/2 that were marked MC and were multicoated even in the silver-nose versions. In the late 70's all the lenses went to all-black. In the mid 80's all were multicoated. Some Zuikos were made through this whole time with o change to the optics except the addition of multicoating later on. Others, like both the 50/1.8 and 50/1.4 were changed several times over the years. The 50/1.8 exists in at least 5 known versions. The 1.4 in at least 4 that I know of. The 85/2 had its optical formula changed at least once.

LOVELY Shots Keith & Darkhorse

My 50/1.4 is an early version as well #232637 /silver tip version
and has that extreme of being quite SOFT & quite SHARP

the next lens for me
will be the 24mm....🙂
Can anyone post some 24/2.8 lens shots.... PLEASE

I found someone on another forum I frequent who has a couple of OM lenses and bodies. I know he has the 35mm but I was more interested in the 200mm (the ƒ4 version). I did a little research on eBay and other info online and offered $85 for it. Good price?

Chris
Looks like that dog of yours has had some practise as a model. Very nice and so sharp. Hope that you are all keeping well. Meanwhile i`ll keep bashing on with my Pentax ME as my SLR.

Interesting talk of 50/1.4 versions.

Mine's a silvernose, serial number 241909, and it's one of my favourite lenses - I wouldn't say it's the sharpest lens I've got, but I just love the look from it.

I do from time to time play with the idea of getting a late multi-coated one to compare - maybe one day I'll get one.

Cheers,

Any feedback welcome. Thanks

Helen,

Here's another 24mm OM shot. I don't use mine often, rarely need anything that wide, but when its needed it is a beautiful lens. This is my fat, greedy 15 yr old cat DEMANDING food from my parents at dinner time. He lives at their house, where he was born.

YES , I'm whacked besides Cooking for Pugs, I Develop Film...🙄

Best to You- H 🙂

My parents have a Great Pyrenees dog too, and the cat HATES her. He steals her food anytime anyone puts any good food (meat) in her food bowl, and sometimes he even steals her dry dog food. He does not do this because he is hungry, his food bowl is always full of cat food when he has been seen stealing dog food. He does it out of spite.

He sometimes gets surprised by the dog while stealing, and he used to attack her and run her off of her own food! The dog lately has gotten a bit of a backbone and has begun standing up to the little orange thief. LOL

Animals can be obnoxious teasing critters, as anyone who's been around cats and dogs together knows. I grew up with a dog and a cat, and they stole each other's food with abandon. When the dog chased the cat, the cat would tolerate it up to a point, then flop over on this back, extending all four legs and feet with claws out. The dog had too much momentum to stop, so he ran over the stationary feline, whose claws raked his bare belly. End of chase.

Dogs, of course, refuse to do any trick we've taught them when anyone else is watching. Don't be deceived by their deadpan look. They're laughing inside.
