Mmm, what if the assorted optical works in the former Soviet Union, produced some new lenses alla japanese Voigtlander ,in Leica M & screwmount, with a lot more quality contol than their older FSU models. Maybe reintroduce the Jupiter 8 & 3 , & Helios i (latest series), and a fast 35mm without a protruding rear element, heck, even a 16mm Zenitar with a 16mm viewfinder. Mmm... what if?.

I'm all for it! Maybe they could even buy up some precision production machinery from German factories that have ceased making camera lenses. More competition is better.

The main problem with Soviet optical works was not machinery, but worker's attitude.

The russians still do produce lenses! at least for the M42 screw SLR-s, since they still produce Zenit , I have even seen a picture of an digital zenit🙂. But the local folk speaks the quality of the new lenses is vorser, than during the sovetunion. The quality of the oulder lenses depended on when they where made... during the week after payment was everyone drank 😀
