After a little cleaning and a small amount of oil in certin spots, it was time for a test roll of film in my newly aquired Argus C-3. I like to use Fuji Reala asa100/ 12 exposure for testing cameras. These are not very artistic, just wanted to see if the thing worked at all. I was pleasently surprised to see that they were'nt too bad. The rangefinder did need a bit of verticle adjusting, but now looks to be right on.Now for the next roll !
The Argus Colectors Group has a very helpful website for info on these cameras.

Anyone got some C-3 photos to share?

Latest roll. Fuji sensia 100 slide film, took a long while to finish the roll and I forgot what film was in the camera.

I love the C3, but now I have two that don't quite work. One has light leaks, the other one works on only one speed. I'll get the energy to work on both of them sometime.

The speed timer is a neat little module under the front plate, so it shouldn't be much trouble to take the timer out of the leaky one and put it in the light-tight one. Then you'd have one fully-working C3 and one "parts" C3 (which could be fixed later when you've got some spare time... which, now that you're going to have a baby, should be in about 21 years.)

The only other reason I can think of that only one speed would work would be the little cam behind the shutter-speed dial or the selector rod that runs from the cam down to the timer, but again, those parts are easy to switch. The C3 may be crudely engineered, but it's crudely engineered in a very intelligent way...

Here are some pictures I took with Tri X. This is the first roll that I ever developed with rodinal, so don't mind the grain. :D

This is the first time I've uploaded a photo, so I'm not sure how to link it to this message. At any rate, I took it in 1966 with an Argus C-3. It should be easy to find because it's the only photo in my gallery!

Retro meets scanner

Retro meets scanner

My Dad's. back in 1951 - probably one of his first - scanned from a Kodachrome print that spent the next 40 years in his wallet...

COLLINS!

No, not Collins, and I guess really, he wasn't supposed to take those pictures. Figures someone here might be able to recognize the racks, guess again... :)

The gear on the desk is, indeed, by Collins...a 75A2, I think, is one and the other's a 32V3, I believe. Sitting on the floor on the left is a BC610 which passed through many incarnations and built (on contract for the armed forces) by a number of manufacturers including Hallicrafters. The 75A2 was a receiver, the 32V3 a 100-watt class transmitter and the BC610 a final amplifer capable of AT LEAST a full kilowatt output at a 100% duty cycle (AM, in other words). 73 de K4KSY

I've thought about it ovenight and hereby withdraw my ID of the big rig as a BC610...could have been as a number of companies built them during the war years and each added its own "touch" making them all...essentially...slightly different from each other. It also might have been the venerable Collins Kilowatt which was within the 610's parameters but slightly larger and taller.

I haven't yet had a chance to shoot with the 1941 C3 that I recently found, but here's my favorite from the 1956 vintage version I've had for a while:

I thought Collins too, but ppro says 'no'...what then?

I don't know if the 32/75 pair model numbers tracked among multiple mfrs, but the R390 did (analogous to BC610).

"Back to the Bocage"-Tour 2006, on our way to a place called Isigny-sur-Mer.
I snapped this shot of one of the American participant with my C-3 as we halted to releave some stressed bladders.....unfortunately I forgot about the top-cover of the never-ready case, hence the lovely fuzzy object on the left side :(. The blueish stripes on the left side are from my decade old scanner (got a better one now)

A friend of mine gave me an Argus C3 so I could satisfy my curiosity about them. These are the result of my test roll so nothing artys. It seems to work just fine.

Sorry that these are all family snaps, pretty much... but that's all I ever do.

Owen, These are great. Who says you need expensive equipment for excellent pictures? I have run about 3 rolls thru my C4, but haven't used either C3 after their cleaning yet, need to do that.
