I'm curious how those big PMT scanners perform - is it pure mechanical or electrical problem

No, it's "FSR1T". Look here, towards the end of the page:
http://www.danes-picta.com/txt_PhotoDigital.htm
It's under "Scanner resolution test targets".

Yes I do see but in price list it cost 67 eur?

All parts of the "chain" must be strong to make it a good scanner - mechanics, sensors, optics, electronic control, data conversion and flow etc. Presumably the best resolving scanners are Heidelberg ChromaGraph s3400 (just utterly clinical resolution) and Dainippon Screen SG-8060 mk2 (among the best lamp illumination system & 2 micron aperture), then comes the rest of the elite: ICG 380, Aztek Premier, ScanMate 11000, Tango etc. But ironically most drum scanners, even the very best have some wierd "if" or "but" coming along or just some quirk or just a temperemental behaviour limitation hidden somewhere. Just like they're all beasts with their own mind
The tonal range is where I am having difficulty at the minute, I am having to open the 'film type' box with custom and sort of guess using the graphs until it looks about correct. I am always losing a bit of shadow and highlight detail and even though there is visible definition in the negative I just can't seem to pull it out at the moment (that's the next improvements in my scanning).
Smart inversion with curves is the key to rich tonality both B&W- and color negatives. With majotiry info inverted with roughly the right tonal infromation you need to leave some "headroom" on both ends that you can later use to enhance shadow or highlight detail accordingly if you need to.
This is the legendary FSR1-T from Danes-Picta.com.
The best resolution chart in the universe.![]()
That's a good target Fernando, lp/mm already marked without the need to calculate.

Is it true? Sounds like a reasonable price for such a usable target. Please let me know if you have any info on FSR1T pricing, I can't find it anywhere.

Yes, but it's without VAT and shipping costs, and subject to additional charge for orders < 100 Eur.
All in all, a very good price.
I crave for FS1 Transparent, but at Eur 500 + VAT is out of my reach. :-(
FSR1T is very good. It holds extremely well up to its max resolution of 250 lp/mm (12700 ppi), I checked it with a microscope. Patterns are perfect.

As for the dongles - regular price of soft emulator is $400. What about group buy? However my LPT dongle is not recognized in all PCs i've tried so I'm without CQ now.

I remember ABC-Scan had recently complete CQ software packages for sale around this price, probably Windows version as well. Maybe check from them?

They don't respond on emails nor telephones. This is the worst contact I ever had with any company. Another Danish company Bruel&Kjaer - best I ever worked with (Polish Division).

Bad luck then I guess. With me ABC-Scan has been allright, maybe not the fastest replyers but I've always got help from them when in need.

I scanned a 5x7 negative in four parts 50mm x 125mm and then stitched them together in CS6, gave me a 2.98 GB file. I had to reduce it down to do anything with it.
Adox CHS 25 (alas no more, but I still have 6 boxes of it in 5x7 and a couple in 4x5).
Reduced size down to a more manageable 485MB.

Very decent shot & superb drumscan Ed!
5x7" really rocks in tonality & detail. Got to shoot some of my 5x7" as well, although I mostly have expired-in-70s-80s film, but should have some fresh Efke as well.
PS: there's the new Rollei RPX 25 coming out that maybe will be made in sheets as well, or at least Rollei's planning to make it in sheets (fingers crossed). Should be a good substitute to Efke 25 if not better.

Thanks Margus, I am getting better with the scanner, I just have to ask myself, how big do I really need though
That RPX will be interesting, what I like best about the Adox is it's almost lack of reciprocity adjustments required.

I'm checking dongle emulator and see no difference - all CQs show *DEMO*.
Can I check dongle without connecting the scanner?
EDIT: connected physical dongle to internal LPT port of DN2800MT mainboard and checked with Sentinel Keys Diagnostic Tool V 1.3 - dongle and emulator is ok
Color Quartet does not see dongle - solution format c:

Needs only 3-connections? And did it work both-ways, i.e. calibrated apertures etc and change PMT-biases?

Yes it works
Next step is to improve AD converters especially on an old board where you can easily remove them

Now that's higher level stuff, if the input/output tolerances and pin codings match between them they're probably "swappable"(?) A hell lot of different parameters to check and measure through though...
