A small club here of v1 elmar f2.8 ...Beautiful Shots EVERYONE !
Nice choice Ms helenhill! Looking forward to seeing some shots from you.
There have been a few threads recently about lens suggestions and for an authentic Leica lens I really can't recommend this lens enough. I think it has all the classic Leica lens qualities in *****s: great build, classic collapsible design that really is compact (unlike other collapsibles), awesome imaging abilities with interesting character at larger apertures and excellent performance stopped down...
I do think a hood really helps the flare, and fortunately this lens has a really cool hood!

I'm a big fan of anything Elmar, and the 50/2.8 v1 is no exception. Mine is M mount but, as noted already, is identical to the LTM optically. I finally took this gem for a digital spin last week by way of the Sony A7ii:
All shooting was wide open in available light with incamera stabilization at elevated ISO settings. Images are uncropped, and received some processing: color balance, curves, mild sharpening, no noise reduction. The optical performance across the frame is frankly awesome but requires critical subject focus (none too easy in dynamic situations). The Elmar/A7ii pairing feels great in the hand, and I prefer tabbed focus, but aperture setting is a royal pain with the single helical. Keeping the lens wide open solved that problem! No guarantees about flare control: I avoided extreme light sources, and used SBOOI.
Edit: ITOOY, not SBOOI.

Cool! Thanks for sharing your Elmar's digital adventure. Great examples of this lenses character. Did you really shoot this with the SBOOI? Did you mean the hood ITOOY?

Heh, of course I meant ITOOY. I could have attached my SBOOI to the A7ii for an even more authentic analog experience, but focus by scale would be, ah, challenging.Cool!
