Huế, Imperial City, Gate of Manifest Benevolence, 1996. The Imperial City was severely damaged in battles between
the French Army and the Viet Minh in 1947, and in fighting between the South Vietnamese Army, the US Army, and the
Viet Cong in 1968. It was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1993, and since then many structures in the
Imperial City have been restored, including this gate.
