It's kinda weird how the common understanding of sharpness and contrast has changed over time. 20 years ago I dreamed of getting a 35mm Summilux ASPH. At that time, it was sometimes derided as being too sharp and too contrasty. But now, I'd call it somewhat softish, wide-open near minimum focus, and medium contrast (when compared to the current state of optics). All-in-all, I quite like it.
