Post Your Film Images Here

Colton,

Are you overexposing the Ektar? I quit using it because it was generally too saturated and in your face for my taste, generally (though I love Velvia, so go figure). I like these that you are doing more than what I have traditionally achieved with Ektar.

To be honest, I mostly never use a meter unless I am using an autoexposure camera. I usually try to shoot it at box speed, although I have shot it anywhere from 25 iso to 640 iso and got good results with normal development. Mostly I use a variation of Sunny 16 with my manual cameras, and then try to err on the side of slight overexposure. The image above I probably started with Sunny 11, then opened up 3 stops because I was shooting the shady side of a building, and then opened up 1 more stop because of the large roof overhead.

I think that "way too saturated Ektar" probably comes from how it is scanned more often than anything else.
I wrote an article about my scanning method. It may be some help with getting colors more to your liking (if you do your own scanning)

Thanks, Colton. I liked the color palette, was just wondering. I used to shoot a lot of Ektar, and have the lab do prints for me, and I thought they tended to be a bit much in terms of saturation and contrast, and this was a long time ago. I liked it at the time, but less so the last few years. I still have some left, may try again another way. Thanks for the input.

I've been shooting Portra 400 but have been thinking about trying Ektar again. I've had interesting results in flatter lighting

Ektar is one of my all time favorite color films (next to Ferrania Solaris) and so I have shot quite a lot of it and spent a fair bit of time figuring out how to get the best out of it with my scanner.

Beautiful shot, Pan! Is it taken from a car? See the reflections on the left. The Leica works good, doesn't it?

Erik.

No Erik, i am afraid it doesn't. New holes on the shutter curtains- i patch one and another opens up. The curtain is in very poor condition - I ordered black electrical tape as a last resort. If this doesn't work then it goes for curtain replacement.

Thanks for that Erik - i am good at taking things apart but not so good at putting them back together. I will give the liquid electrical tape a go and if this doesn't work, i will ship it to Alan Starkie - he charges £35 for each curtain replacement.

Other than that, the IIc works well and the elmar is a beautiful little lens. This picture is taken around f/4
