Is this an older photo? The French army was using those FAMAS rifles on patrol around Paris when I lived in Belgium in 2014 and they still had them in 2017, but they were using newer American rifles when I was back in Paris in 2023. Maybe they use both, not sure.

The current weapon for the French Army for this type of use is the Heckler & Koch HK416, but the FAMAS will be in service until 2028.

The Gendarmerie still use the FAMAS. The National Police use the Heckler & Koch G36 and, at least have been reported to use, the Spectre M4.
