Post Your Nikon F6 Photos!

Beautiful scans...I need a scanner and still undecided.

BTW, wonder if the 45 pancake on the F6 would make the camera a little more stealthy. I tried it on the F5 and D2H and it was rather cool.:angel:
 
I loved my F6. Sometimes I regret selling it.

That being said, my common complaint about my 5DmkII is that it's still too big, even with primes, as a walkabout kit, or a street kit. I am really happy with my X-Pro 1, which is like an M kit. That being said, I compared camera sizes, and the F6 is almost IDENTICAL in size to the 5DmkII (and mkIII, I'm sure). It puts it all in perspective. I remember thinking the F6 was pretty compact. Now I feel the 5DmkII is kind of large. Weird.

I really love the F6 and much prefer it to the F100 (which is still a wonderful camera though). The thing that most strikes me as different when taking photos with the F6 is the total and absolute quietness immediately after the shutter has closed - I simply cannot hear the film advance. It's as though I still have to wind on. When I first got the camera I had to waste a shot every now and then just to look at the top of the rewind handle to check that it moves (and of course it does, very quickly). For some strange reason this quietness is important to my enjoyment of taking photos.

The F100 on the other hand (or at least my F100) makes what is to me a very annoying zip sound, something I've never got used to, and which, idiosyncratically and perhaps irrationally, continues to irritate me. In fact it's why I never use the F100 now, even if I want a second black and white body when I'm abroad: for this I use an M7 (with that wonderful dull-sounding short clunk from the shutter), along with a summaron 35mm 3.5 to give beautiful gentle sharply-defined grey tones that contrast with the bright sparkle of the tones from the nikon lenses that I have.
 
I had an F100 but never liked it. It lacked the solid feel of the F2, F3, and F4 which I have.
 
This is making me want to get the F6 out of the cupboard and rekindle my love for the thing. I have one of those rather plasticy 35mm f2 AF Nikkors that turns it into a real weapon for casual shooting. With the matrix metering and the amazingly fast AF it's hard to take a photo that isn't perfectly exposed and in focus! I did some street shooting with this setup a while ago and it was stealthy in a way that other cameras aren't due to the sheer speed at which you could bring it up to to your eye and have the shot before anyone noticed you! Rangefinders are good but this is a whole different world!

You'll be pleased to hear that I'm currently digging my F6 images out of an external hard drive and will upload them to a better hosting site and post a heap later ....

.... but only if you agree the F6 is stealthy for the reasons I explained! :D

Probably because it fits so well in the hand. There is something about the design of the fit/hold of the F6 that is just right. Really makes it feel smaller than it is. I'd take an F6 over any other AF film Nikon any day. No question.

Just as you can't tell the difference between a photo taken with a Leica M2 and an M6 so long as the lens is the same and the bodies are functioning properly, you can't tell the difference between a photo taken with a Nikon F6 and a Nikkormat, for that matter, so long as the lens is the same. I don't get it - where is the fun, or learning, even, in this thread? What am I missing? :confused:
 
Stealthy, huh? That makes my D800 stealthy, too, hahah! I agree with the very quick focus, I am watching for one of those 35/f2 lenses right now, too. Cannot wait for spring to really get going so I can use the F6 to get some nice chromes. For now, here is an unremarkable photo of my terrier-mix Grace chasing a mouse down this fall in the yard. She was moving fast when I took the photo, so it does illustrate the F6 speed focusing. (Not sure of shutter or aperture settings, imprint was off.)

You are missing the fact that I might not want an F6 if it is too big to shoot without looking like a nerd with a huge camera and lens around his neck.:mad: I will not likely get a photo if I don't carry an elelphantine camera with me when I would probably get the shot whilst carrying a smaller camera. THAT is what this whole thread is all about. Not what the bloody photos look like, but it is nice to see what others come up with whilst carrying a large camera and/or lens.

I am a Leica M shooter and even the R4 (roughly the same size as the M body) is large to me with an R lens. So, moving up to an F6 (unlikely that I will ever afford one) would be ridiculous if it is too big in size and/or feel. I am therefore trying to figure out what does everyone use an F6 for...not likely the same as with a Leica M as far as I can tell with the sparse posting of images.

Seems like everyone wants to talk. Post photos, please.:rolleyes:

You are a good man, Keith.:angel: I wish I were half that but I reckon the stress is too much lately. That is why I started what I hoped would be a fun thread rather than film v digital, my camera is better than yours, what bag is more perfect and of course, many other topics.

Looking forward to some neat photos. Again, I apologize for being a grouch.
 
IMO opinion these demonstrate the versatility of the camera ... from landscape to street, portraits to considered studies and of course the obligatory cat shots!

There's a variety of lenses here from 50 and 35mm Zeiss primes to a 24-120 f4 G Nikkor. Any late model autofocus SLR could have done these but the F6 can do this sort of stuff without raising a sweat and it's an absolute pleasure to use! :D

Nice shots Keith! I've always been interested to try the Zeiss 35mm f2.0 but have never allowed myself! This thread has got me missing my F6. I'll grab my F5 and see if that helps at all..

Thanks for these images, Keith...I can almost feel that I am shooting with the F6.

I am liking what images I see. Although, I don't think I will see many in-restaurant, street, or up-close portraits. Just can't imagine myself walking in with a big SLR and lens around my neck.

But, maybe I will be giving it a try with the Leica R4 soon. I am absolutely happy with the Leica SLRs.

What interests me in the F6, besides boredom at the moment, is that the time is getting short to enjoy film. Not just from a market standpoint, but from a personal standpoint. It would be nice to enjoy what I presume is the pinnacle of Nikon SLR development while it is still feasible.

Don't see it ever replacing my Leicas, though.:cool:

It might if I did weddings, etc. but not anymore. I am free!
